Default Katech brings LS7 cylinder head porting/bronze guide installation in-house

As many of you know we have been using WCCH for CNC porting of LS7 heads and installation of bronze guides for many years. They have provided great service for us and we couldn't be happier with them. They filled in a gap in our product line due to us not spending the time on our own port many years ago. Their service was so good that it wasn't on our priority list to do on our own for many years. When something is not broken you don't usually fix it. It was just inconvenient to ship cylinder heads to California, although they helped us many times with fast turnaround and expediting. That being said, we do want to keep our spindles turning here at Katech and we've recently invested in additional machinery. We've dusted off some old LS1/LS6 ports making some airflow improvements to them, created a new LS3, LT1 and LT4 ports and have offered some very attractive pricing on them. We've spent the last year perfecting our LS7 port. We wanted something that performed as well as the WCCH port and we have recently performed an engine dyno A-B test to make sure of that.

So, we are now offering LS7 CNC porting and bronze guide installation as a mail order service. You can place an order using the links below, send in your cylinder heads and get the same ones back to you with quick turnaround. Usually we have the heads for about a week.

Additional services such as bronze guide installation are in the related products at the bottom of the page.

Katech Expands Cylinder Head Porting Services to Include LS Engines

Expansion part of strategic vision to provide ported engine systems later this year

DETROIT, Mich. – February 11, 2018 – Katech Inc., one of the world’s premier performance engine builders, has expanded its line of proprietary CNC cylinder head porting services for several late-model General Motors LS/LT engines, including LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, LS7, LT1, and LT4. The CNC porting services are available through Katech’s online store or by calling Katech at 866-KATECH1. Katech’s CNC cylinder head porting service is available for a flat rate of $499.99 per pair. New LT1 and LT4 ported cylinder heads are also available in the online store.

“We’re expanding our ported head offerings as a starting point for a line of ported-engine systems we plan to introduce later this year,” said Jason Harding, Director of Aftermarket Operations for Katech. “Porting provides great value in terms of adding horsepower per dollar, and we think adding a Katech integrated system of ported components will deliver even better performance and achieve the greatest value.”

Harding added, “Porting cylinder heads correctly requires a deep understanding of fluid dynamics – it’s not just milling the ports larger, as that can actually do more harm than good if done incorrectly. Katech’s 40-years experience in professional motorsports has given us a vast engine database and the hands-on experience to get it right.”

Katech’s proprietary porting services are available for the following engines:

• LT1 and LT4
• LS7: casting number 8452
• LS3/L92/L99/L76: casting numbers 821, 823, 364, 716
• LS2/LS6/Truck: casting numbers 243,799, 317, 035
• LS1/Truck: casting number 241, 806, 853, 862, 706

The cylinder head porting service has two options. First, customers can remove, disassemble, wash, and ship their heads. Katech will then port the heads and send the dissembled heads back to the customer. It is not an exchange service, and customers receive the same heads back that they sent to Katech. Alternatively, for an additional fee, customers can send Katech their assembled heads, which Katech will then disassemble, port, wash, and reassemble. Katech also offers related services, such as decking, valve jobs, and in certain applications, bronze guide installation. Call or visit the Katech store for more details.

New ported cylinder heads typically ship within two days. Porting services usually take about one week. For more information, contact Jason Harding at 866-KATECH1.

Jason,

Can you share any details on the LS7 ports such as port volume, air flow, etc.

Does the price for installing bronze valve guides include a valve job? It seems logical but the web store has almost no information on these details.

What would be the cost for a complete rebuilt, ported, milled set of LS7 heads all done by Katech as follows:

- Disassemble and clean
- Install bronze guides
- Port
- Valve job
- Reassemble with Katech TiMo intake valve and GM hollow sodium exhaust valve.
- PSI springs, Ti Retainers

Did I miss anything? I guess I'm suggesting a package price for a couple of the popular groups of parts/services would be nice.

Thanks,

I'll post some data later.

The online store operates on an automatic add trigger system. When you add install bronze guides to your cart it automatically triggers the addition of the guides and a valve job.

Your cart would look like this:

We don't do a 1/2" head stud upgrade.

LSA port is in development.

We A-B tested the new Katech port vs. a set of WCCH heads on the engine dyno to make sure the power was the same. Power and torque was almost line to line.

What valve and guide machine are you using? Manual/CNC, live or dead pilot?

Does the intake swirl damn get removed? Is the exh port throat enlarged any?

I'm sitting on a set of LS7 heads that I need to ship out for some port work, hence the questions. Not trying to be a pest or pry.

Serdi, manual, live pilot.

There is some work done to the swirl dam but it is not removed. Our flow bench has a swirl meter to optimize swirl/flow. Removing the swirl dam entirely helps flow numbers so you can sell a lot of cylinder heads to people who only base their purchase on flow numbers, but it hurts horsepower.

The exhaust port throat is not enlarged.
