^^ So the truck adapters don't attach to anything, you just slip them into place?

correct, they sit in the same recessed pocket that the rubber lifting blocks sit.

Honestly, I would just cut up some 4x4 if I ever needed the extra height - just as effective and certianly less expensive.

No, it's just like using the rubber blocks that come with the jack. Only, these are made of solid steel and weigh quite a bit more.
