Out of 60+ I've seen inspected, i've seen 2 in spec. One was barely there at 16k miles, and I would put money down was out by 20k. The other had 8k and was fine.

Now heads repaired, seen plenty in spec after 30-60k miles.

OE GM heads...I've seen 2, maybe 3 guys on here say they had their heads tested and were found to be in spec. No measurements presented as such, just "the shop/dealership inspected them and they're in spec". So take it for what its worth...

I just saw this thread. Ignoring the drama. But for general awareness reasons, it is not uncommon to get - what would seem, excessive movement by shoving the valve around like in the video. It is best to remove the spring when testing.

Yes. The entire mileage was with headers, CAI and tune. No drag or track racing, just spirited street driving. I'm at 108K now.

Yes, at that time (2011) there was a lot of talk that the OEM heads were defective. For that reason I switched to aftermarket (PRC 265s). As things evolved it was finally determined that the heads themselves were OK and it was just Linimar's machining.

I have gone ahead and ordered remanufactured heads and the one in the video and the other side will be measured by a machine shop once they are removed, I will know then. I made the decision to not renew my warranty and use the funds to contribute to the head replacement and reduce the possibility of it happening long term.

Is valve train noise common on cold starts?

Depends on the noise...but yes, in general LS motors are noisy. The "sewing machine" noise is typically used as a reference. The injectors have a tick-tick sound to them as well...so again, it depends on the "noise". I will say, after my AHP heads were done on my '09 w/15K miles...my engine was noticeably quieter.

Mine was quieter as well (used AHP heads). 2011 with ~13k miles.

My 2007, 10,300 miles is also quieter since the heads were rebuilt by AHP. Four intakes and 1 exhaust were beyond the service limit.

Looking forward to twisting his tail a little more than in the past. My speedhut shift light is set at 6k and only turned it on 5 or 6 times a season up till now.

Same here, '08 w/20k miles. It is definitely quieter now. First time down the road at low speed and I could tell.

Can anyone tell if these springs/valves look OEM, these are the take off heads on my car, didn't bother with wiggle test etc.. Just ordered AHP heads and had them installed, was getting ready to send them back for core charge but all of them feel real tight (wiggle test) so now I'm curious if I was a lucky one or if the head work was already done and I did it again because I didn't take the time to tear things apart before ordering new ones. TIA, mileage on car was 27K miles, everything else in engine bay was OEM except CAI. If these are good heads I'll sell them after getting a shop to measure play, if not send back for core.

Not sure if those are OEM springs, but you want to keep those lash caps off the intakes. I don't beleive AHP sends new ones with their rebuilds.

Thank you for your order!

We really would like all core heads returned and not sold to someone else. We structure our core program around customer returning their core heads not keeping them.

GDamn it, I put this "Jerri" tool on ignore, yet I still can't get away from his child-like understanding of general mechanical principles..

I'm not a religous man, but I'd drop to my knees every night to pray for this guy's motor to blow already so he can stop ruining this forum for the adults..
