Default May be buying a Z06

Hey guys it' been a while since I have lurked around. I sold my 2003 Z06 about 5 years ago and have been dieing on the inside ever since. Tonight my father in law called me and asked if I wanted to buy his 2008 Z. I really want too but I am nervous about the head work that will need to be done. I m an aircraft mechanic and pretty capable of doing mechanic work on cars so i think i could whip out a head change. He is the second owner and he bought it in 2009. The car currently has 15000 miles and is a 3LZ trim. He offered to let me have it for 32k which I thought was a great deal. What are your opinions?

Default Local to you

Small world. I keep my car in Hewitt live in Robinson. Pic of car in my avatar is in the parking lot at LMR at the end of Panther Way.

Have done my heads myself along with cam and other stuff. If you want to talk about it pm me and you can come by my shop.

So instead of spending $1500-2k to fix the heads, he is going to give it away to you for a steal? Take it and run. That is a great price.

Default Buy it!!!

Again, buy it as it is a very good price and you know how it has been taken care of, especially if you can do the head fix. It should give you many years of enjoyment and you can keep the rest of us apprised of your mods as they go. I also went 4 years without a Vette, and bought a 2006 Z in October, and have been loving it every day since.

GREAT PRICE!

Sweet deal! I paid $36.7K for my 08Z 2LZ last spring with 23K miles and had to fix the heads. There is a nice write-up here on the forum which is nicely detailed. I used it to do my head fix with only light mechanical experience, so you should be fine. I used AHP heads and was a great opportunity add headers.

I have already priced the AHP heads and install kit with ARP studs for just shy on 2k. Just waiting for the green light from my wife.

And even that kit has some major upgrades and performance upgrades. Just a valve fix is ~$800 or so.

get it, and don't worry about the heads.....

you can get them replaced but the price is nothing compared to the amazing vehicle produced by the Chevrolet team...

4 new tires will be just as expensive!

btw, imho this will be the ultimate performance car realized ten years down the road... I'd go so far as to say they're only going to get more expensive in the next few years

Great deal...even with your $2K investment with the AHP head fix, you're still in the black on that car at $32K. Grab it quick...

Buy Buy Buy! Great deal, low mileage, 3LZ trim. I see no red flags unless you don't like your in-laws

Update...the wife is on board and we are currently moving around some funds and investments. Also waiting on insurance quote but it looks like I should have it in my garage by next week. Too bad I am heading out of town for a couple of days later this week. I will keep updated and pics once she is home.
