Yeah there are no quality performance shops anywhere around here, there’s very few places I will even let touch my car let alone tune it.

MJD Performance and Boost Controlled Performance are two places I would consider locally if my car needed to be tuned. I hear a lot about Dr Phil also. All of these places are in the metro Detroit area.

I agree with Detoxx03 - Check out MJD. Great guys and he has a few surprises for his tuning...

Forget about Dr Phil unless you want to leave your car for 2 months and never hear an update.

With any decent sized cam you will have to find some one willing to spend a good amount of street time with it. It will need serious VE, MAF, RAF tuning and tweaks that will not be completed in a single dyno session, or in a single day. Cold, warm, and hot starts all have to be logged and adjusted. There was many good shops listed in this thread but to ask one to get what you want done in a day well that is another thing.

Some mentioned doing it your self and that is great because of all of the time you can spend dialing in every aspect of the tune. I know guys who have spent 100s or 1000s of hrs tuning their cars. Look at the time the OEMs spend calibrating a combo.

Not sure just hear a lot about him but I do see how the MJD and BCP cars perform and that’s where I would lean.

I feel like someone with a lot of experience should know fairly well where to start with the setup and be able to dial it in from there. Maybe I am wrong?

James Short "Shortuning" in Danville, KY. 30-40 minutes south of Lexington. Hes been tuning my stuff for years and I couldn't be happier. I would put him up against any tuner in the country.

I've had many cars tuned, if its just CAI headers and a tune no problem one and done, a heads a cam car or any major mods will need more than one session I don't care who does it. I'm very picky about how my car drives so I'm ok with having to get some additional tweeks.

Have you looked at Baker Engineering near spring lake? They do a lot of high HP LS stuff.

I'll recommend Nickey Performance near Chicago. Did great by me and you'll be pleased too.

Hi Ron, what cars have you had tuned at Nickey Performance? Reason I am asking is because I will need to get a tune soon as well. Once I complete my heads and cam install. I was thinking of going to Speed Inc as they seem to be the bigger shops in the Chicagoland area and still not too far away from me.

From what I’ve seen and heard recently is that speed inc is going through some....”changes”. Might want to hold off on them for a little bit. My neighbors G8 is 40hp shy of where it should be and his transmission shifts like complete garbage. (Took it back twice, same result)

That sucks. I have to find a tuner in the next month or so. Is there any other shop that you would recommend in the area? We recently moved to the west suburbs. Still finding out what's where lol.
