Did better for the 1/4 for sure. Can feel it on the street as well. Feels like the car has mid range now when it used to be all top end.

Was 4800ft DA so only got an 11.779@119 all motor with a 1.60 60’.
Maybe some day run it at sea level.
Should be closer to 11.2 @128 Ish.
4800ft DA On bottle was 11.2@131 with a 1.67 60’.
Should be 10.6@ 138 ish at sea level.
Hopefully 10

So from ordering the gear set to installation rebuild etc we are looking at 1200-2000?

2009 c6 z06 headers, vararam cai and tune
60' 2.00
1/4 11.56 @123.00 (untuned)

Main goal is to break 10s without opening the engine. Times listed above are with stock clutch so thats why my 60 ft is so horrible lol.

The gear set alone now runs $850.00

I think I've seen prices ranging from $450 - 900 for you to ship your diff in to a vendor to have the gears put into your existing case. If your diff requires any additional parts, that cost can swing quite a bit. Labor cost varies as well.

I can tell you that I have roughly 700.00 in additional parts I've added to my diff rebuild (not including the gear set), and I R&R my own diff.
My local guy charges 300-450 in labor, depending on what parts he is replacing (doing clutch packs, etc.).

That puts me in the area of 2000.00 for a fully rebuilt rear diff, including my specially priced rear gear set, and no labor to R&R the diff.

$850 for gears.
$500 for build labor
$500 removal of diff
$240ish in parts and fluids.

$2100 ish and it was done right the first time.

Is it worth $2000?....
hard to say. Definitely how it should be from the factory.

I had the carbon clutch pack and new HD springs upgrades done, along with a new pinion bearing assembly, which added 450-500 to my parts cost

very close. I could barely hear them. Late at night with exhaust turned off. Nothing I’d think twice about

This might be a bit subjective, but technically the new gears should be a bit louder due to the design of the gears. The individual doing my gears explained it.....the cut of the gear teeth.

OEM gear are designed with 5 different "cuts" on the ring gear teeth, like a muti-angle valve job. The reason for this is to eliminate some of the gear whine between the ring gear and the pinion gear...maybe even to assist in the wear of the gear ( that's just my opinion ). Does it weaken the overall gear itself ? I don't know.

The new Motive ring gear is a 3 cut gear...he could tell by looking directly at the teeth and looking for the various angles (back cuts ?) on the teeth. He explained a 3 cut ring gear will be noisier than a 5 cut, for this exact reason. In a car with an aftermarket exhaust and a higher road noise floor (think minimal sound insulation), he said you just not might hear it...it'll be masked by the other noises in the car.
It's not objectionable...just not as "quite" as the OEM gears.

Good stuff Jeremy. Nice improvement on your 60' over 3.42s. I believe the $2kish we spend on this mod outweighs just about any other mod when it comes to bang for the buck. Hence why I'm so eager to get it done.

I'm waiting to have mine done with the same guy Victor is using, but since summer is here, there wont be much racing for me, a least not on the track.😉

I think this will kill road racers, the step between 4th and 5th is so steep that acceleration slows down and instead of getting 155mph in 4th we'll be going into 5th and loose acceleration after hitting 140~, Need a .85 fifth gear to work with this, $$$$

Aren't a lot of drag racers putting on small diam weld rims/tires?

before the change it would hit 153 ish in 4th. There was a big drop in Rpms from 3-4 that would hurt acceleration. It pulls quicker through 4th now. Still hits 145ish in 4th. I’ll check again when I get time.

Depending on the track, you are correct. Most of us h/c/i cars have raised rev limiters (7300-7500), so if you use a standard road race rear tires (Hoosier R7 345/30/18) we hit 146 MPH at the top of 4th @ 7300 RPM (150 @ 7500 RPM). With the 3.42's in the rear, I hit 166 MPH in 4th with that tire. If you have a track with enough straight away length to hit speeds over 140, then the MH3 spec ZR1 transmission comes into play, with it's much shorter .81 5th gear.....which I've already moved too.

My 5th gear, with 3.90's, is good from 150 to 185 with my 7500 RPM rev limiter
You can change the rear tire to a shorter 315/35/17 (25.5") for drag racing at the 1/4 mile, or a 27-28" tire for 1/2 mile or longer rolling events....if you so choose.

I got my order in for 4.10's early and called Rick at RKT Performance. I was able to take the differential to Rick's shop on Saturday 4/28. I slept in the parking lot, four hour plus drive, while he worked his magic. I took a drive for lunch after my nap and a short time after I returned I was back on the road home. His shop is extremely clean and from what I saw all the proper "special tools" are used as well as torque wrenches.

I completed my 500 mile easy break in so the gear lube change is on for tomorrow. I figured if I said anything right away it would bite me in the butt and that's why I'm just posting this. Rick was very adamant about checking for gear noise at 50 to 65 MPH right away, it was quiet and felt nothing through the shifter then or now. I can start playing around now and see how it does through the gears.

The 4.10's make 6th gear more functional. The computer is showing 22.5 MPG and I've been short shifting and just cruising. The loss of a few miles per gallon will not entice me to drive my 35 MPG Cruze.

Thanks Rick, it's a good thing I'm far away or I'd be hanging around all the time, but then again I'm retired now and if you see an AO Z06 in the lot, it's ME!!!!!

Mike
