Default brake question

Going to put the car in a car show in a couple of weeks. Was wondering what the hexagon bolts are in the calipers? Do they hold the padlets in place? If I remove them one at a time, will the padlets move? I want to clean them up and see if they will shine more...they are pretty dirty looking, but don't want to do a brake job. Thanks for the info.

They do hold the padlets in place, but they are designed to be taken out to change the padlets. You can take them out one at a time, polish or refinish them as you want and then put each one back in place, making sure that they still keep the padlets in their proper place. Each padlet has a molded notch for the bolts. There are matching bolts on the inside of the caliper, but if you are just doing it for cosmetics, you don't need to do those.

Sometimes they are hard to get out. If they do not want to turn, put the proper hex or torx socket on the bolt and give the socket a good hit with a hammer to hopefully break loose any corrosion that may be keeping it from coming out.

good luck
