Default Tire swap

I recently bought my car. As part of the deal it needed new tires. Aside from being at the end of their life, the fronts were cupped (presumably never rotated), there was a nail in one of the rears and a screw in the other. There was EMT run flats on it before and I went to the Michelin PS4s all around. I've only driven it a few miles but what a difference in ride quality!

Any thoughts on the wear pattern for the old picture? Normal/expected wear or time for alignment?

Alignment probably had too much negative camber based upon the excessive wear on the inward side.

I have my alignment checked with a "New" set of tires.

Checking doesn't cost that much and then I know my car will be happy.

Did back Camber to -.7 all the way around from - 1+ Car handles well and tire wear improved..

Z tires are staggered so unless I missed something they can’t be rotated. But not being rotated isn’t going to cause cupping anyways.

I was thinking left to right not front to back.

I'll probably bring it to have it checked amd adjusted if necessary. $200 is cheaper than $1200 for new tires. Don't mind the negative camber but also don't want to be chewing up tires.

is that a thing? I’ve honestly never heard of anyone switching tire sides.

How many miles on the car? Just make sure camber is not excessive and toe is in spec. Out of spec toe will eat your tires before negative camber, alone, will.

Can you tell me more about the Michelin PS4s. I found it listed on Michelin's site, but not on either TireRack or Discount Tire sites.

I called DTD because the Pilot Super Sports were showing low inventory and would not let me purchase online. The rep said that they are discontinuing the PSS's and that the PS4 was the replacement (right, wrong, or indifferent). I told him I'd call back in so I could do some research before buying. All the reviews I saw were good so I decided to try them. They were supposed to be special order, a 4-6 week wait, but they showed up the next week.

The tires are directional and cannot be swapped side to side. With that said a stock alignment will wear the tires like that. The car comes stock with neg camber to help with handling so unfortunately you will see a similar wear pattern on all 4 corners unless you get a custom alignment. Best of luck with the PS tires. I couldnt wait to get rid of mine.

That doesn't look to me like the kind of wear you get from a normal amount of negative camber. We're talking 1-2 degrees here. To see the inside edge worn all the way down with the outside at almost full tread depth seems like a massive toe out situation.

Definitely get the alignment checked, but it seems to me that with a typical amount of negative camber, the only possible way to wear the tires like that would be to drive straight for 20k miles without ever turning, which is probably impossible.

What tire did you go to? I had bald, hard, EMTs on so it's night and day. Obviously I'm comparing old to new and not new to new. The PS4s aren't directional...didn't bother to see if the EMTs were.

I just has some MPS4s put on today, and wow, what a difference in the ride. My old tires were 12 year old OEM Goodyear runflats. They were very loud and had a harsh ride. The grip was also bad. I was way overdue. These tires got great reviews and went with them after doing some research. The car still has road noise, but not as bad.

Default PS4 or PS4s?

Just want to point out that PS4 and PS4s are two different tires. The 4s replaces the soon to be discontinued PSS.

Follow up question....

now that you have some time/miles on your PS4s's how do you like them?

Do they throw rocks like the sticky SS's used on the C7 Z51?

How do they grip when you nail it in a 1st gear?

I just put a set on my 2006 Z06 and they are awesome tires. The grip and the ride are so much better. I am making 526rwhp and had had no wheel spin in first or second, whereas with the old runcraps is was spin city and backend going sideways. I really like the tread pattern and look of the tires too. I never had the PSS, but these look to be an improvement over those. No doubt these are great tires. I paid around $1,340 with Discount Tire. I was worried about them scratching my wheels, but they did a great job with no issues. I did request their best tech and the salesman I'm sure got the impression that I was super nitpicky about my car, which I am. Also will point out that this tires are 16lbs lighter than the MPS ZP (runflats) as I did a comparison. I got an inexpensive slime flat repare kit as recommended by another member and I'm good to go.

Unfortunately between weather and kids I've only done about 300 miles since install. However, the ride quality and traction improved drastically. The previous tires were run-flat and old so they were hard. The new tires hook up pretty good in lower gears. Previously I had to be very careful in 1st/2nd, sometimes even in 3rd. Now I can go full throttle without it kicking out (at least unintentionally). They do throw more rocks than the old tires, but again the old tires were crap. I wouldn't say these throw more rocks than other comparable tires though (unless you are running sticky slicks of course).

I don't know about the tires as compared to the C7 Z51...I don't have one and haven't read anything to compare.
