Default Z06 journey to a 9 sec Pass

For any that followed me along the way know that the last 2 yrs were plagued with issues. Shortly after having a great first season in 2015 running an 11.7 and working my way little by little down to a 10.33. It was great as almost every time out I got that amazing feeling when you beat you're PB. 11.7, 11.5, 11.2, 11.01, 10.86.....and so on. To be honest all I wanted was a 10.99 but after getting down to 10.33, well that 9s slip was all the more appealing.

2016 brought a new setup that should have been the ticket to a 9, however I was fighting a bog that I just couldn't figure out and ultimately ran out of time but finished with a new best 10.14@134.25, well next year.

2017 started with still trying to figure out that issue and finally figured out that a vendor had put in heavier SS exhaust valves in my heads that I never was asked or told about. It's not even on the bill. that being said I hadn't calculated that factor and would have need more valve spring tension to accommodate. Decided to pull the heads and have them reworked and get the stock lighter valves back in there along with some M90 guides to go along with a new custom cam. Well got the heads back from that vendor and the guides were so poorly honed I sent them back out to a different vendor to have them clean up the mess. (leaving lots out as I don't wanna write a novel lol) but had No runs to show for 2017.

And to the present, 2018. Got out a few weeks ago with less than great track conditions but it gave me a chance to get the new setup a shot and see what she can do. well, it was more than impressive. on the few passes that it hooked, i picked up 37-38mph on the back half and cracked 139.xxmph on multiple occasions. I did not do better than a 10.3x but knew it was coming.

Today I finally did it, I finally got my 9 sec Slip. I went 10.01 at 141mph just for a little tease but then went 9.91@142.75mph with a 1.47 60ft. Car feels great, it's got more in it. After we dialed in the tune I went 141-142mph on at least 5 to 6 passes. The cars pulling harder than ever.

special thanks to:
Kohle@ American Heritage Performace AHP for cleaning up the mess created by another. Kohle offered me a deal I couldn't refuse and I'm proud to say my car runs with his heads.

Jason@ Katech. Jason always answers my tech questions with lighting speed and he also took great care of me regarding some of his fancy spintron testing we had performed for my set up. PS I need a good deal on some katech valve covers

Sebastien aka sebast19x for helping me make all the hard decisions and always giving support. cars always tuned to kill thanks to you and your guidance is unmatched. Having your custom cam don't hurt either lol.

here's the creds

more coming this fall

Amazing James! Car looks really fast out of the hole and really nice shifting! Seb giving you lessons?? I see you graduated from the Iceman 1.5 to the 3.0 Awesome backhalf speed. That thing is making some steam. Glad to see you got all the cylinder head issues behind you and the car is now working like its supposed to. Hope I can best you in a month or so when I get mine back together but until then by all means enjoy your top 10 NA SBE M6 fastlist accomplishment, you certainly deserve it and worked hard to get the car there.

Thank you Rob,
It's a sport that pays in headaches most of the time and occasionally a stupid grin you can't wipe off. Today was a grin moment and I'm stocked for the fall when we're back to good DA. I'll make some adjustments that we found out today and hope to see even better numbers.

The build is posted on the fastlist but mods are;
Fast 102 intake along with nw102 Tb, and Halltech air intake. Stock worked heads by kohle at AHP, custom iceman 3.0 cam and American Racing headers and xpipe. Tuned by the best Sebast19X.

It hasn't been dyno'd but I'd guess something like 640ish but again that's just guessing

Who needs 3.90's?! I can see you trapping 145 with better DA. Your backhalf is crazy fast. Your shifting really keeps the rpm's up! Good stuff

The car makes mega torque and it fights through lower rpm out the box in a hurry and after each shift, its obvious the car powers through to redline. Cars tuned on murder mode and revs so freely

Congrats on the 9 sec pass! I'm still battling my issues after a shift (similar to what you went through). I just bought a new set of springs to hopefully help out. Also, a 15" conversion on the way as well!

Us guys who run up in high elevations and higher than average air temps need them

That 600 RWHP on a dyno ends up being 550-575 where we are.
THat 600 RWHP at sea level in cold air is in the area of 630-640 .

And, my comments in no way take anything away from the OP's run.... that was damn impressive, and you still need to be able to launch and shift a car. RWHP is only part of the equation.

Congrats James.
Job well done.
You have come a very long way encountering the hardships that many of us endure.
I can see at least a tenth or more in there based on the trap speed.
Good luck.

Intake was ported by Seb, the intake is off of his old build so don't bother asking him to port one haha he hates doing them
Cam is an Iceman 3.0 and I can't share the specs as it's custom. Truthfully I don't even know all the specs myself. I just shut up and drive like Seb tells me too.

Sounds like you're building a monster. 600rwhp should be a breeze

Sorry to hear about your issues your having. I'm so glad that's behind me now. Problems with solutions I can deal with....problems you have no answers for are the absolute worst. I wouldn't wish that upon my enemies.
