Default Michelin PSS vs PS4S?

I know, I hate the be the guy that starts a tire thread, but I can't really find much up to date info on this since Michelin discontinued the PSS. I had all but made my mind up to buy them, then after calling one of the local shops today they're telling me they can't get them.

Tire rack looks to still have them.

Do we have any real world experience with the PS4S on our cars? Thumbs up, thumbs down?

Is there a new "this is the tire to get for the street"? I'm not planning on tracking the car, just street driving.

Thanks in advance,
Luke

I recently picked up Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires for my ZO6. Fantastic tire! Would definitely recommend!

I don’t have them on my ZR1, but I do have them on my ‘08 Dodge Super Bee and they are great.

I posted a recent thread, tire swap, which has some back and forth on the same tire. I like em!

Local place quoted me $1285 installed for the PS4S so I may go that route. I haven't heard anything negative yet other than they don't hold up well on the track.

I believe I paid $1,210 to my door with no installation so $1,285 sounds good to me.

Just bought a set of the PS4S from Mavis for $1100.00 after they failed to get my GY run flats off the front wheels. Had to run home, grab the truck and then go back to get them. Kind of a hassle, but the manager reduced the price $110.

I've heard nothing but good about these tires, so I can't wait to try them!!

They are Michelins! If they discontinued the PSS for another tire I am willing to bet they are bad azz.

I’m having a new set of PS4S installed today or tomorrow. After I put some miles on them I’ll get back with my amateur opinion!

There is fairly recent tire thread on this . I had done some research and it indicated that the MPS4s was a superior tire to the MPSS in a number of areas. I had a set put on my Z06 three weeks ago and the ride difference to the OEM run-flats was a dramatic improvement. Also, with 526rwhp, these tires really grip and am not getting the traction issues I had with the old tires. And they are quieter. Love the looks and tread pattern. Very impressed with these tires. They are also lighter than the MPS ZP run flats which was then other option I was considering. The total weight difference of 4 tires is about 16bls. The drawback is having a flat. I got a small Slime kit of Amazon and will carry it on any extended drives.

I put the 4S on my Z06 a couple of months ago. Absolutely amazing tire. My buddy c6 (non Z06) has the SuperSports on his car and we switched vehicles on a road trip. We both agree that the 4S are a much stickier tire. Could also be that mine is a Z06 but the tires just whip you around with no loss of traction when warm. Doubt I will ever go with any other tire.

Had them installed this afternoon and have only driven them less than 50 miles. I can say, the ride is like day and night. They ride so much smoother and quieter than my old Pilot Super Sport run flats, that it feels like a different car. Once I wear off the new tire “slime”, I’ll see how well the straight line traction and cornering grip is. Just based on my short experience with them, they are great.

Hey guys. I wanted to chime in here as I recently put these on my 06Z this past week.
The 4S in PS4S is because it's the 4th generation pilot sport tire - it is not 4 seasons.

I have only driven them maybe 50 miles and my old tires were PSS, so I can only speak to ride comfort and noise - both are largely improved over the PSS (albeit we're talking a PSS from 2013 here). I'll have these on track in 2 weeks so if I forget to add my feedback, just PM or tag me and I'll gladly share it.

So that's what I know so far. But based on what I've read, they do everything a PSS can do but slightly better. The biggest improvement is in wet traction, but dry grip should be a bit better as well. They also claim the sidewall is a bit stiffer (common PSS complaint), but we'll see about that on track.

Lastly, Michelin has a promo on now. I got $70 CAD off and I think it runs until early June, so worth looking into.

1) Pilot Sport
2) Pilot Sport PS2
3) Pilot Super Sport
4) Pilot Sport 4S

That should somewhat explain the number, it's the 4th generation.

I just put these on my ZR1 and came from PSS. I have only put around 40 miles on them. I don't notice them being any quieter but they ride great and seem to have good traction. No complaints, I think I am going to be very pleased with these tires.
