Default Wrong differential fluid in c6 z06

Hi guys,

The dealership here has given me wrong differential fluid, the car started to make bad noise in tight corners and roundabouts.

I havent used the car much at all since. What im wondering is if this will cause my differential to have permanent damage? Or should a oil change with the right fluid fix it?

I would change fluid immediately, run it for a couple of cycles and change it again.

Sounds liked the fluid wasnt for a posi rear. I also suggest changing the fluid now! Then again after that.

The fluid is a 75w-90 without LS lubrication, and the idiot didnt give me a additive with it.

If they wont take responsibility i will just get new and RIGHT oil and change it.

I just hope this short term usage havent torn anything

How long have you been driving it that way?

Dont worry about it.

get it on a hoist and toss in a bottle of slip additive. Done.

Drove it that way approx 10-20 km approx. And everything is fine when driving straight just corners are bad.

In that case I agree just dump a bottle of additive in. You will be fine.

Its fine.

if you added it go to a parking lot and start doing figure 8's to get the fluid to the packs.

Also helps if the oil is hot when doing this after a nice long highway cruise.

Change the fluid then. Get the Mobil one with additive in it already or the royal purple .

Did he give you the GM fluid? That comes with additive already in it.

Yeah, I'm confused...OP said "dealership", so I would think its GM fluid. More to the story maybe...

if it's chattering you just have the no additive fluid. as suggested above. just add the additive and do a bunch of figure 8s.

very easy to remedy

Sounds fine. Figure eights to get the fluid out to all the clutch plates and then check fluid level and top off if necessary.

My dealer also offers M1 diff fluid, so maybe they sold him that without the additive?

Personally I stick with factory fill for the trans and the diff...

Thanks for all the replies guys. Well i live in Sweden and the GM oil isint allowed by europe standards. So they gave me something that isint OEM.

I have talked with our Corvette specialist in Stockholm and he recommended Motul LS gl5 75w-90 and said that it works fine and that they always have used it.

My biggest concern is if my differential took damage during the short time without additive modifier

A bottle of modifier that many of you have suggested has reduced the noise alot but it is still there. Ive done figure eights and drove in circles etc but the shattering noise havent ceased totally

just get the additive in it and drive it. The short time you drove it did no damage. Its just a drain and fill so the plates had lube on them just not enough friction modifier. Go do some figure 8's to get the fluid worked in.
