Default Push Rod Question

Measured my push rods today came up with 7.700 length.

These are going in my LS7 motor 09 z06.

Question is does the head of the push rod need to be tapered or does that matter at all any benefit?

My guess is doesn't matter since stock are not.

I was looking at MAN-25772-16

Will those work thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't understand your question. What do you mean when you say "head of the pushrod"?

Are you referring to a tapered pushrod? Double taper? If you were referring to the rod, and not the "head", tapered rods are used when you have clearance issues using a rod with a larger diameter.

7.700" seems awfully short, unless you milled a ton off the heads. Did you measure for 0 lash and did you add your preload to your final measurements? Or did you measure using the bolt turn method?

My shortest pushrod was 7.710, milled to 68cc. Although I do have the longer Johnson lifters. Measured mine to zero lash then measured with calipers. That’s with .040 preload as well.

Running stock Ls7 cam. And I have Hylift Johnson lifters all new with preload measured @ .030 very confident the measurement is correct with 7.700 rod. I set preload based on 2 different emails from Johnsons tech support got the same answer from 2 different techs telling me to set my preload at .030 so i did. Oh an heads are AHP STAGE IV MILLED .030s as well

And yes My orginal question was about the “HEAD” of the push rod aka the tip maybe? Or ends of the push rods being tappered vs not.

Eitherway thanks for the responses everyone i bought a set of rods today.

Bought some Comp Cams 8904-16 Hi tech 3/8” 7.700s

thanks!

Push Rods due to be delivered tomorrow hope to get installed and torqued down Thursday so I can turn the motor by hand and get a better feel for things.
