As I said, the more Dodge parts, the better. Next up should be a complete hellcat motor.

Josh, related to the bolded above I found this gem while researching cam options the other day for my next build:

I have the K501 cam and I am happy with it so far....

.... I can't imagine ever wanting "more" power out of an LS7 than my current combo, so IMO, "more" cam seems like it would only compound my current traction issues and drivability would decrease with the additional intake duration.
How many combos was this ago, exactly?

Are you a dodge fan? I didn't peg you for one with the C6Z and the coyote, or the Hyundai.

I spoke to WCCH yesterday and it looks like we are waiting on a different set of springs that are backordered. After looking the build over some more, Richard thought it best to up the spring pressure a bit more, taking open pressure at 1.200" from 655lbs with the PAC 1386 springs to 765lbs with the new PAC 1325 springs. So, another 110lbs of open pressure to keep things under control. This actually bodes well with something Ryne mentioned to me with the All Pros on his shop car. As I recall, he needed to add about 50lbs of pressure to eliminate some float he was seeing at 8200 rpm.

Info on the PAC 1325's
  • Spring OD: 1.550
  • Spring ID: 0.788
  • Seat Pressure: 250 LBS @ 2.000
  • Open Pressure: 765 LBS @ 1.200
  • Spring Rate: 644
  • Max Coil Bind: 1.150
  • Max Lift: .800

Thanks Rob. I'll get the completed heads from WCCH tomorrow or Thursday. Can't wait to check them out and see how the port match turned out. When I spoke to Richard he mentioned that he could not get it 100% because of port shift from bank to bank, but that the amount of mismatch remaining would be negligible in terms of hp.

Port match of the FED CNC ported Hi Ram to the standard 290 ports.

As as bad as this is, it’s much better than the mismatch of the hi ram/Mamo heads.

So these are the “before” the port matching pictures.

My 69 z/28 with the original 302 would valve float at 8200rpm. That's was a sweet sound, a v-8 at 8k. Is this build going to peak at higher rpm's than the last? What is the short block max rpm? Keep up the good work, reading your post is holding me over until I can afford to do a hci on mine, nothing close to yours. The car payment is killing me right now.

Those 302s are legendary. I imagine it will peak higher a higher rpm than the last combo. Da Z06 ran some numbers in his software and estimated a 7600 rpm hp peak. Previous peak with the MSD intake and old cam was about 6900.

I don't know what kind of rpms my bottom end is good for.....but I know how high I'm gonna rev it Thanks for the kinds words.

My 388 peaked @ ~8200 with standard length ITB's. As most know changing runner length (if possible) will change peak rpm HP significantly. in most scenarios for drag racing shifting well above peak hp is ideal for et provided traction but should be confirmed by PUC calculations exactly where. I like to design all aspect of my engine builds with this in mind so as not to leave et on the table if my engine is not capable of spinning where it needs to be.
Just to add, the stock ecu in my c5Z hit some sort of hard limit around 8000-8200rpm that could not be bypassed so there's another limiting factor in case anyone wasn't aware.

C6s cruise control only works properly to 157 MPH. Above that and it just keeps climbing. Fixed in the C7s

Stopped by WCCH to pick up the Hi Ram. Making some CAIs for Hi Ram swaps and need to confirm fitment on a Hi Ram.

While there I got to check out my heads. The port match is just phenomenal. Them ports looking nice now Reminds me of the Mast Mozez runner opening.

I must add....checking the heads out twice now while they are being built is nostalgic of being a kid in the 80s and checking out the toys at K-Mart that are waiting for me in layaway. Good times.

I only could get these two while at WCCH. I’ll take better pictures once I receive the heads soon. I’m also a fan of the pretty pictures.

Thanks Don. I'm running All Pro 290s this time around. The Holley Hi Ram was CNC ported by FED. Hoping to have a really great running NA 454, putting my best foot forward here (obviously the kill foot, drill foot).
