Default Battery dying after about a week.

2012 Corvette Z06

I've tracked down a drain but the battery still drains from a full charge after about 10-15 days. At rest it pulls down 0.04 of an amp at 12.90V, which is normal but will be at 11.50 after 4-5 days and 10.0 in another 7-10.

I've heard this is a common problem for the C6 Z. Has anyone figured this drain problem out yet?

Mine isn’t that bad...but I leave it on a tender regardless.

Yep....keep mine on a tender when not driving. I think the car thinks about going for a ride, so it drains the battery. Who knows....lol.

If I take my ZR1 off the ctek, it dies in the same amount of time. I did find yesterday that my fuse box in engine bay was not fully seated into itself (3 pieces) and was causing some problems with my intercooler pump and throwing codes. I don’t know yet if that contributed to my battery dying fast or not yet though. Certainly couldn’t have helped it last longer with connections picking up and dropping out constantly

Some items that have been discussed as causing parasitic battery drain

1) Mild to Wild Device
2) Onstar
3) FOB to close to car and communicating frequently

I similar battery issues like you describe pulled the Onstar fuse and disconnect the Mild to Wild device and my battery last a lot longer now.

I was told when I got my car to always park it in reverse and I do, and I have never had a dead battery. I have left car for over a month with out starting.

I can't let mine sit longer than about four days. I have no idea why leaving it in R would help, but it's worth a try if you can leave yours for a month.

Something about the base C6 in 2005 that would kill the battery unless you left the car parked in reverse gear, but supposedly GM fixed that issue after 2005.

if my car sits for more then a week i throw the Battery Tender on it. seems like a fully charged battery will struggle to start the engine after the car sits for about three weeks. I just pot the hood and clamp the Tender to the power post on the fuse block.

OP, your experience seems normal to me, my C6 usually won’t last longer than a week without the tender. My C5 will go two weeks, maybe even a little longer, but the C6 does not last that long. I just keep them both on tenders.

Thanks fellas, i knew it was a common problem, but this is just a little ridiculous to me. I've got a trickle charger I'll hook up.

A fully charged battery dying this fast is ridiculous. No battery should need a tender after a week or so, but I am currently problem solving or at least attempting to problem solve. My alternator was not sending a consistent 13.8 volts or higher when checking voltage load on the battery. Getting a new alternator starting there. I will update.

I believe there was also some info on an issue with the HVAC unit not finding proper "home" position with the curtain move. It would cycle every so many minutes to try to locate home.

I found out my issue was my wideband, my buddy wired it into my M2W so it was on all the time.

If you run an unpowered wideband the sensor will die fast, the M2W is probably your drain.

I ran a separate circuit operated off a small switch I routed into the center console, it energizes my M2W, gauge pod setup and wideband sensor. I just flick it on and off when I get in and out of the car, had a bad problem with the battery dying after a few days and isolating the M2W when the vehicle is off has solved it for me.

I plan on routing mine to a keyed source so when the key is off it is off.

So I've heard. When's the last time anyone even used Onstar? Is that still a thing??
