The answer to "Battery won't hold a charge - what replacement battery should I buy?"
I see this asked a lot, and I asked it myself. I did a lot of research and the following are my findings:
(GOOD) Easiest cheap solution:
(GOOD) Easiest cheap solution:
- Go to Walmart or AutoZone and get something that is exact fit around $100 that has a vent tube.
- Install.
- Get the Duracell AGM Automotive Battery - Group Size 47 (H5) battery from Sam's Club. ($135)
- Get this specific bolt kit from Amazon. ($8)
- Use a Dremel or hacksaw to shorten the bolts to 7" in total length.
- Remove factory battery hold down bolts, replace with new bolts.
- Install.
Video version of the Better kinda cheap version (with AGM battery):
(BEST) Easiest but not cheap at all solution:- Get the Odyssey PC1200MJT battery. ($275)
- Install.
- At the $100 price, no matter what you get it is likely made by the same company but with a different name on it. Pick one you like.
- The Duracell AGM is apparently the same as what is sold at automotive stores, also under various names for $200. It is slightly taller but otherwise has the same dimensions as factory. That's why you need longer bolts. Everything else fits perfectly. See video linked above.
- I really wanted the Odyssey because it looks cool. Fur my use, the extra $125 wasn't justifiable since it is in a hole with a lid covering it.
- Don't forget to hook up the vent tube.

I picked up a NAPA branded battery that had the built in handles, a few years back and it has not given me any trouble. I do use a trickle charger in the winter storage months.

I've used the OEM battery, seemed to be in same price range, first lasted five years on my 5th year with second AND the dealership put in,.saving my knuckles. I do keep it on trickle charger all the time and it has the vent tube.

^ Same...Delco here. Got nearly 7 yrs out of my OE battery, saw no reason to change. Car stays on a tender most of its life.

+1 for battery tender use.. I got the adapter that plugs into the charge port in the center console and plug it up every time I park it. The car usually sits for 1-2 weeks at a time. This is a must.

JDebler, great summary to that frequent question. I got the Walmart Everstart Maxx wet cell battery. It is a direct, easy fit with vent tube and handle for no hassle install. The CCAs exceed OEM requirements. It works great and is inexpensive.

Battery
I chose Interstate. Because of warranty and reputation. BUT I think the Delco is a good choice. The OEM Delco I took out went 9 y 10 mo. I would keep a battery tender plus on mine when the car was not in use. When I replaced the Delco battery It was still starting my 07 Z06 without failing. A tip. If your car has a manual transmission put it in Reverse when parking over night or longer.. It will put ECM into soft sleep

What's a Declo battery cost these days? I was always under the impression they were on the expensive side.
And from my research, the "put it in reverse" tip is for 2006 only?

Unfortunately, here in Las Vegas, with the summer heat well above 100* for a few months, car batteries generally last about 3 years at most. Whether it is garage kept or not! I’ll probably just go to Autozone when the time comes.

Went to a Shorai Lithium battery. Got their charger as well. Super small. Super light. So far, so good. Been in there a couple years now and it does see the specific Shorai tender often(don't drive it as much as I should).

I use to think and feel the same about putting the trans in rev. Tell a good GM mechanic proved me wrong. [About 3 to 4 years ago] My 2010 ZR1 would not start after it had sat for about 2 weeks. I took it to the dealer. The mechanic had it for 5 hours running test. During that time I would go back and talk with him also watching what type of load test he was doing. He found no problems with the car. We talked about the Reverse / non reverse he said that all [C6 Manuals] need to be placed in R when parked over night or an extended amount of time. I still have that car and have not had it happen again, I now put them in reverse. Good luck with yours. E.
