Default Best cold air intake for LS7?

What would you guys rate as the #1 Cold Air Intake? Have any tests been done on actual hp/tq gain from swapping out the stock unit?

I'm having a hard time figuring out which to get, thank you for any advice!

K&N makes some rediculous claims in their advertisements, I doubt they are true. Anyone test them?

Best bang for the buck is the K&N. Dyno tests have shown that the KB and the K&N are equal in performance.

And there you have it: Three responses, three different intakes. I'm a Halltech fan, but there's no wrong or right answer here, IMO.

I've only compared the KB and the K&N. If you look at the two side by side, the quality difference is clear. Yes, the KB is more money, but I've had mine for nearly 9 months and it's performed flawlessly, and looks like the day I bought it. I know some folks, at least early on, had some troubles with the K&N deforming. Maybe that's fixed now.

The problem with K&N's deforming was due to installation errror. Overtightening the clamp. Last I heard K&N reinforced their intake and included a new style clamp to help prevent this from occurring.

Also, K&N replaced any deformed intake under warranty. Frankly, I don't see enough difference between these intakes to justify the big jump in price. And as far as performance goes, there is no difference.

It's all about what you prefer and how much you are willing to pay.

Calloway is what the top GM tuners seem to like.

K&N had a serious problem (tubes warping, allowing unfiltered air to enter the engine) with some of their intakes that were sold, again, I said a serious problem. Some of it was helped by getting the clamp tight, (I didn't say too tight) heat helped also.

K&N is a great company to do business with, I'm hoping they have resolved this problem by now.

btw, I have had personal experience with the K&N problem.

Default Particulate

Particulate:a substance that consists of separate particles, especially airborne pollution.
Most after market CAI are designed to free up horse power which I agree the added hp and tq are desirable however this comes at the expense of air filtration.
I would like to see someone design a CAI that out performs the stock unit in air flow and utilize a Donaldson Powercore element or equal.
My 2 cents.

my vote is for the vararam...have it on mine and it truly brings ambient temp air into the intake...kb and k&n need additional ducting to bring ambient temp in ...

p.s. at the stock positioning of the filter, ambient air temps go up fast when not moving...they come down after some driving but a lot of engine compartment heat gets to that area...the vararam intake duct is right behind the grille and gets outside air , not underhood air

here in az that is a very big advantage!

True a few did warp, albeit a very small percentage. The last I heard this is no longer an issue. And as you say, they are a great company to do business with and stand behind their product 100%.

In some cases they even shipped replacement tubes and new clamps via overnight shipping at no charge to the customer regardless of their determination of the cause.

Hurricane

For it to work as a CAI it must beable to get cool air. K&N and Haltech do not do that when used alone. You have to buy a seperate scoop to obtain the cool air effect.

Haltech Killer Bee! I have sold and installed several of these intakes, and I have found a consistant 12hp gain and a 5 minute install. Try that with a Callaway!

Fast and easy does not always work Log a run at a drag strip on a 90 to 100 degree day. When you finish your run you AIT will still be way hotter than the outside air temp. You will not make as much HP as and intake that gets air from outside the engine compartment. It's that simple!
