Anyone step up to a GT3?
I test drove a 997 GT3 the other day and while good IMO wasn't worth 60K more than my current ride. Granted it was a test drive and not ***** out on a track. With that being said I feel I must have a 991.2 GT3 with a manual transmission parked in my garage before I depart this earth. Any folks here that have driven both the C6Z and GT3 and what are your impressions on how the two compare? What I love about the Z is the effortless torque and sound. What I love about the GT3 is the 9K redline and sound.

If I had the money I would take that IO Z07 off your hands so you can get you a .2 GT3.
OP, unless you have the itch for a P-car I would pass. If you can financially go for it, grab one! If I had the money I would not, a 997 TT would be over the GT3.

I currently do not have the means as they are going for ~200K but 5 years from now maybe in the low 100s? I don't like the TT because they are too fast. Sounds like a weird thing to say but you cannot open them up on the street because they are simply too damn fast. I find myself always driving them restrained which takes the joy out of being able to wring the neck of a sports car.

I had been thinking of buying a new GT3 Touring. Local Houston P dealer recently told me that their last year's allocations for ordering GT3s all went to people who had bought at least four P cars from that dealership before. While I have owned two P cars before, they were not from her dealership, so they would not even count. I told her to take my name and phone number off her list.
I would like to hear from NotreOKC regarding how well his C6Z06 and his GT3 make him happy, and also whether he has had one or both cars on a road course. My lightly modified C6Z06 has been to a half dozen track days this year, and it does make me happy.

haha thanks guys I just built the garage as well. I was on the list for the 14' GT3 but they had the engine issues and I got pushed to the 15'...Its truly an amazing car. I have tracked both quite a bit and the Z06 is my primary track car. It is stock for the most part, with alignment, tires, full exhaust and track pads. I drive it pretty hard. So for example I was stuck in the 1.27's for a long time in my Z and one day I decided to take the GT3 out and clicked off a 1.25 in a bone stock car. The stock alignment as well, on PSC2's. It turns quicker and just feels much lighter on its feet (even though its 50lbs heavier than my Z)..The PDK-s gearbox does all the work for you effortlessly..

Just uploaded this vid for you... I was at an autocross event in Marina a week ago, corvette club event, so lots of C5's, 6's, 7's running. Top vette time was 70.xx on this track by a highly modded and well driven C6Z, but top time of day (for 7/14) was a GT3 at 69.xx. Car was a beast!

Ben, GT3 is way out of my league. 2018's are going for over MSRP by a lot.

I get to drive my buddies 2010 GT3 RS every month and it is a blast to rip around in... the exhaust note is intoxicating to hear and especially in tunnels. For the price difference unless you have money to burn IMO it isn't worth getting the P car. They are vastly different; however you can certainly make your Z06 handle better with some aero and tire/wheel upgrades! Talk to Rich at Abel Chevrolet in CA or maybe Louis at G-Speed in TX for parts. Rich's C6 Z06 kicks butt on the AutoX and Road Course.
The one thing a naturally aspirated P-car never will have is gobs of torque. 7.0 liters in the Corvette makes it great to drive at all RPMs even in stock form.

Of course let us not forget that gorgeous car in your garage turns 1.34's at Laguna Seca. Unfortunately could not find the 991 GT3 time at MRLS.

In the Z's defense around a mid- 1.20's track that PDK is probably that gap difference and depending on track it's rear engine layout would work in the GT3's favor as well. I know my stock Z shifter takes a while to shift and an MGW is on the list. Also, I love your garage as well haha.
I understand that, dealers want crazy ADM's on them. Not to mention trying to grab an allocation for one. A 911.1 GT3 could be had for bottom $100's now and to me that still is not worth it. For me not worth it when a 991 TTS can be had for mid-$130's and outrun the GT3 in a straight line and in the corners.

Yes I also have the MGW it does help alot. The prob with the turbo's is the AWD. Its amazing but you cannot get a proper track alignment out of the front with the driveshafts. Another reason is the Turbo's depreciate. If you got a 991 GT3 for 120-130 it will still be worth that when you sell it. Current 997's are still 110+.

Please share the tire model and sizes you are using on your Z06 for trackdays. Ditto for alignment specs and brakes. For example, on my 2008 Z06 I am using Michelin Pilot SS in the OEM sizes on OEM wheels. Alignment is -1.7 deg front and -1.3 deg rear. Brake pads are Carbotech SP8 front and rear on DBA 4000 rotors. Brake cooling is stock and brake fluid is Motul 600. I have no brake fade or soft pedal issues. I use a Lingenfelter-modified 11 qt oil sump tank to ensure I do not run out of oil pressure for the engine.
Thanks.

In all fairness. The 997 is the old platform, the two cars are not even comparable. The 991 is a very very big leap forward

I've driven both a 991.2 GT3 w/6 Speed Manual and a 991.1 GT3 w/PDK on the track along with numerous other P-cars (GT4, Turbo etc).
It's not necessarily a fair comparison as we're comparing brand new/practically brand new to a 10+ year old car. Also, major price differences.
The 991 platform has definitely made major advancements over the 996/997's so take that into consideration. IMO they're something that has to be pushed to be really appreciated.
As much as I love my C6Z and it's an amazing platform/bang for your buck, the 991 GT3's are leaps and bounds superior. Build quality especially as they're put together so well. A C6Z with proper mods/tires/driver though... different story.
