Tools needed to bring with me for a oil pressure senser swap.
Going to look at a 06 Z with no oil pressure showing. It must have oil pressure as he's been driving it (can you say knuckle head). That said, I'm not even going to start it up until a new sensor is installed. Be just my luck to be behind the wheel and have it blow. I'd rather eat the cost of the sensor if I don't buy it then eat the cost of a new engine if I buy it and it really has no pressure. I have a oil pressure sensor socket here someplace but I think other things will need to be moved for access. It looks to be in a very difficult spot to get at. So what has to be moved and what tools to bring with me to do it.

I believe the intake manifold has to come forward to access it. Pull the cold air intake with a regular flathead, I believe 8 mm bolts for the intake manifold (or 10 mm?), and then you should be able to access the oil pressure sender behind it with your socket or a wrench. If I remember, I think you could just slide the intake manifold forward enough to gain access without completely removing it. Not a terrible job by any means. Just be careful snaking the hoses around that sending unit when pulling the manifold forward.
Good luck!

Also, if you have little to no oil pressure you'll know about it in a hurry because the lifters will start making all kinds of interesting noises.

If the sensor is bad, it'll show up as XX or else a REALLY high number on the DIC. If it shows any other number then it's most likely reading accurately.

This would be a road trip/flight with check in hand. I could road trip both ways with a trailer and/or drive back on a repair or dealer plate. Would mean 16 hr drive one way.without actually knowing I have oil pressure

I had low oil pressure warning on the DIC on my Z06. I thought it was a bad sending unit because the engine sounded normal. It turned out to be a broken main bearing.
I hope you have better luck than me.

My sensor failed and I decided that if it failed again it would be a 5 minute repair. I installed my new sensor in a remote, accessible location. The fittings, hose etc cost less than 20 bucks from Jegs.
