Definitely going to be much more reliable. Good luck with the build. Hopefully no surprises are found when they tear down your motor.
No issues here with your post, as it is relevant to the subject and you have contributed a lot re your recent build and continued input.

I ran a bone stock oil pump on my forged motor and oil pressure was always amazing. If CPR said katech red, I would just run it.

Im running a factory pump with my clearances opened up to the max so it will live under high rpm's. Oil pressure is 35-40 at idle and jumps to 65-70 around 3000 rpm's.

What is your upper RPM? I see oil pressure drop about 5PSI after 7k RPM till my shift point at 7500rpm, with the stock pump.

I only run it to 7000 rpm's. or when I hit the stock rev limiter during autocross

I mentioned the Katech Blue pump and CPR was fine with that, did not say go to the red because of the forged component block setup. They are very familiar with how I run the car. I wanted the top end checked out too and CPR said to have WCCH take a look at it. I would still want to go forward with the work planned even if everything turns out to look OK, but the teardown will likely show this work is necessary. CPR indicated they would likely move the FSO to 7500 from 7300 even though my power peak will be in the 6600-6800 range. While I do not anticipate needing the additional 200 RPM, I would probably have used it at Mojave on the 4-5 shift as the stock gearing in 5th really drops off the acceleration over what I get in 4th at the top. I would use it for a 1 mile event too.

I am hoping this will be the last time I need to go inside the engine, but be responsible on how I keep on top of things.

I was trying to say whatever CPR recommended is probably more than enough. Got confused on blue to red. Hell a stock oil pump would probably be fine was my point.

Because I do road course events, and the stock oil pump scavenge side sometimes has problems keeping up in long 1.3G+ left hand turns, I asked for the Katech Blue which has 30% more scavenge capacity than stock and I am also having the Aviad pan baffles added. These are for added margin for the few road course events I do. CPR is familiar with the Katech Blue pump (and red) from other road course clients.

For you hard core road racers with fully prep'd Z's, I know there are much more road course oriented dry sump oiling systems at $3K+. I just run 20 minute sessions for fun (I am quick) but will not be doing time trials or wheel to wheel with the Z.I road raced for 45 years including co-driving in 25+ 12 to 24 hour races. My body just can't take that beating any more.

I see that as of 1/2018 the Katech pumps are an outright purchase now...no more core credits.

You may be fine - but at least you have an option if not. What can cause some of the oil pressure drop is in the lines/oil cooler. I can not remember but I think I lost like 5-7 psi (from say a 50 psi start point) when I compared the block off plate U turn (higher psi) thing and running the Z51 oil cooler lines/bypass Dewitt radiator. I think with some number 10 lines and not the number 8 with all the tight bends (Z51) that would make up some of the loss in pressure. If you were to run pistons squirters that's where the red pump would come in.

Upper valve train upgrades where greater oiling options are available (lifters, rockers, springs, etc.) can also benefit from the red pump.

I hope I don't have to go there after 12K miles on the heads.

Good luck Dave

Just had WCCH inspect and repair my brand new GM replacement heads. Had the intakes sent out to Del West for polishing and also kept the new exhaust valves. Will do write up soon. Hope your heads are still in spec.

I just got the news from Joe at CPR. WCCH inspected the heads (w 12K miles on the guides/valves (K501 cam driven) and they were perfect. Measurements and info will be forthcoming. The block is being worked on, no updates yet, but soon.

Just for reference here, WCCH did the heads back in May 2016, ported, shaved .030", CHE bronze guides, Katech TiMo intake valves, new OEM exhaust valves, Ti retainers and PSI 1511 springs
