Default Considering switching from my 5th gen ZL1 to a C6Z

Im thinking about selling my 2012 Camaro ZL1 and getting back into a Corvette. In the past I've had a c5z and I would say that the ZL1 is an upgrade in terms of overall quality and comfort. I've never driven a c6z. Has anyone made this transition?

I haven't made the transition, but I would definitely recommend it! You will not look back. The ZO6 is on a completely different level. The ZL1 has a whopping 1,000lbs on the ZO6!

It depends on what you want. I drive a modded 5th zl1 regularly as my best friend and I go on very "spirited" drives here in the mountains often. I love his car and almost bought one but Im glad I got my Z06. The biggest differences between the two in a real world application are: I like the driving position and the pedal placement much better in the Z06, plus you get better gas mileage. I like the throttle response of the N/a motor, the engine bay is more accessible, and it takes much more power for the Zl1 (around 150+) to stay even with the Z06 given comparable drivers. I will say that the ride is much more comfortable in the Zl1, and it's easier to get in and out of, without feeling as cramped to your passengers.

Thanks for the info. Another thing I like about the ZL1 is that they are somewhat rare. Whenever I go to a car show I am always the only ZL1. But, I agree it is a heavy car and I did like the seating position in the z06.

Lets make a bet.... Drive a properly built HCI c6z if you like it more, then you owe me 1000$. So when ever you do drive it remember to bring the 1000$ cause your going to love it... just get the c6z c6z will beat a zl1 with 100whp less thats enough for me to stay in a vette forever.

C6Z is so much more violently powerful than even the numbers suggest. It’s an absolutely perfect vehicle. Clutch, shifter, steering, throttle, brakes are all so finely tuned and intuitive. It’s an absolute weapon in the hands of a competent driver. I’ve been around fast cars all my life but let me just say.......if the C6Z06 was a girl, I’d marry it in a heartbeat.

I recently traded in my 2013 ZL1 on my current 2008 Z06. The Z06 pulls harder and is faster. My ZL1 had full length headers, highflow cats, Rotofab intake and a tune. I never looked back. I don't miss the camaro at all. Do it! You won't regret it!

I'll chime in here on this one and hopefully it helps.

I have been a Camaro guy all my life. I have owned a few and I was on the consumer focus group for the 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro team (we were known as the "Camaro Disciples"). My last Camaro was a 2010 SS which ended up being a SEMA show car. AFM removed, LS9 camshaft, Magnacharger, full Borla exhaust from headers to exhaust tips, Pedders coilovers, etc, etc, etc. Great car. Fun to drive, really really fast.

I sold it a few years ago and then last summer I picked up my 2009 Z06. I never owned a Corvette before but here's what I can tell you...
My 2009 Z06 with street ported heads and mild 116 camshaft would walk away from my modded 2010 Camaro without much effort at all. The LS7 torque curve is unbelievable and the driving experience is really enjoyable. From a roll to 100+mph is completely effortless and comes up on you so fat it is almost hypnotic. Keep in mind, it still holds the 20-somethingth spot on the Nurburgring list if I am not mistaken.

This is not to say that the Camaro is a bad car at all. Again, I am a Camaro guy at heart. But, they do serve two different purposes and as such, they almost feel like they were built by two different car companies.

If you like your ZL1, you will likely also enjoy a Z06.
