Flat Plane Crank in a Z06!
As some of us know, that delicious high revving exotic scream we hear on the Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc is due to a 180 degree firing order because of 180 degree opposition of crank journals (flat crankshaft vs our cross plane) that results in equal exhaust pulses. I had been looking into Akrapovic and x-pipes and other mods to try and get remotely close to that exotic sound. Found this vid on YouTube of a guy that actually built a flat plane engine for his Z. As I did more research, it looks like Lingenfelter also makes a flat plane LSx.

Thank you for posting that. I was always curious what it would sound like. Now that I've heard it, I don't want to do it to my car. I'm for sure curious as to what kind of power it makes though...

I felt the same way after hearing this however you also have to take into account that it was probably shot on a cell phone so the audio probably isn't a hundred percent accurate. In the video it sounds like the Corvette has lost a couple of liters of displacement.

it had a 5.3 in it not a 7.0.

I think its pretty awesome but the corsa makes it sound to extreme. I think with a different muffler setup it would sound a lot better. The corsa already makes our cars sound higher pitched.

A little too buzzy with that exhaust but with something a bit deeper it would probably sound pretty good.
Pretty darn cool, though. It would be something to see that in a 7L. Wonder what that would cost?

Interesting discussion over on the Ford Shelby GT350 forums as to why the American 5.2 in the Shelby doesn't sound like a Ferrari or other exotic. Had something to do with most exotics having true dual intakes, tuned, and exhaust systems, tuned, to the range the builders want the car to run in. The Shelby has a distinct sound to it, much different than exotic, much like this Vette. I would venture it has much to do with the same comments about exhaust and intake tuning.

If you do the math and just did a straight power per cubic inch if it were a 427 (instead of a 327) would be 740 hp and 600 ft pounds of tq now we are talking about some power.

Not digging it. LS7 sounds much better.

Nope. Not for me at all. I agree with Hirohawa, LS7 sounds way better
