There was a time when I frequently drove them, stock, modified, even track only GT-Rs. I also frequently worked on them installing all sorts of upgrades from downpipes all the way to removal of the motor for a turbo upgrade. I would never actually consider owning one seriously. There are too many other cars I'd rather own.

I am also a big BMW fan and if I were going to get a 4 door car then I would seriously look at the M5 or M3. M5 is TT8 and the M3 is TT6. Either car is very fast with simple bolt on's and a tune.

OP it doesn't seem like you would be happy with a Corvette. They're not built for drag racing in a dig. Sounds like you had your mind made up before starting the thread.

CTS-V's have usable back seats, lol

No, I am really trying to convince myself to get a Vette even though it does not have two seats. Seriously. That's why I have not posted on the GTR forums!

Actually, that is a very good point about a CTS-V. Why in the world did I not think about that?!

For what you want to do, it's not a good fit. It's designed to go fast around a track. People who drag race them are handicapped from the get go. They're just not built for it.

The new V3s are very quick cars and have an amazing body line in my opinion. They are on the last year of production, too.

M6s and M4s are 11 second cars.

911's are great but a fast one is 100k+

GT350's are slow pigs

My F150 can beat an Evora in a drag race.

I wouldn’t get a gtr if you are planning a kid. That means you need a back seat large enough for a rear facing car seat. The GTR would not accommodate a rear facing car seat... I’ve seen a couple pictures, and the only way people can do it is with the passenger seat all the way forward and the seat back up... which is fine if the passenger is only four feet tall, but still uncomfortable.

The Audi S5 is quick with enough space in the back.

But a CTS-V would be my choice. Those cars are incredible. It’s a tuner car, like the corvette. There’s a huge following for street and track performance, and a lot of garages that are familiar with working on them. In the end it will be a fraction of what the GTR would cost you, and you’ll actually have a back seat that a newborn can fit in with a rear facing car seat.

Ask a friend who has a rear facing car seat, or go to a shop that has them available to put them in a vehicle, just to give yourself an idea of how much space they take up, it takes quite a bit of room.

Good luck with your choice.

I had a 2013 GTR with 1100WHP. First it was FBO 600WHP, then 700, then 950, and then 1100.

Incredible cars. Truly. But, it became somewhat boring and "not fun" to drive. It was an animal at WOT, but it was bulky and weird.

I now have a C6 ZR1 875WHP on E85.

Super cool and fun to drive, feels more like a racecar even if it feels a bit cheaper.

You all are awesome - very good feedback. I looked into the BMW Z4 but I just cannot wrap my head around buying one. I see the downside of the CTS-V being heavy from the start for drag racing, but it is now in the top three - GTR, C6 ZR1, CTS-V. I need to find out how much it would cost to make it run as fast as a ZR1. I am showing 12.2 (2015 CTS-V) vs 11.4 (2013 ZR1). One thing about the CTS-V is the fact that it looks like a more comfortable daily driver than the other two.

I'll throw these tidbits:

Everyone who thinks Z06's are slow has seen videos on youtube with bad drivers. A stock C6 ZR1/Z06 destroys a 2014 GTR in a roll race. GTR destroys both Z06 and ZR1 in a dig race. None of my friends believed the Z06 was bone stock until I replaced my motor at 50k miles (DAILY) and took pictures to prove it.

None of my friends that own modded GTRs can daily drive them due to the E85 requirements
All of them have more than 100k into their cars with mods
A ZR1 with 700rwhp won't hold traction worth a damn on street tires

Consider NONE of these cars will have a warranty

Stock for stock, out of the 3 Zr1 is king no question.
Mod buck for Mod buck, Zr1 wins
Would you really want to beat on a 55k$ Zr1 on a daily basis though?
The carbon ceramic brakes are expensive with no real benefit on the street beside looking cool.
You can get a Z06 for 35k$ and put a procharger on it and make 700 rwhp all day long.

My 600 RWHP C6 Z06 will put approximately 2 to 3 bus lengths on a 700 RWHP 2012 GTR from 40 to 170 mph.

wow I must’ve done something wrong. I raced a FBO GTR last week. First from a dig and the other few were from approx 45-50mph and he moved out pretty handily. He claimed he made 630/630ish to the wheels. 17psi, exhaust dumped straight out turbos, e85. Not sure what else.

But i I think I screwed up by starting in 1st gear at 50mph because he immediately jumped ahead when I had to shift as soon as we made the initial hit. I should’ve been in 2nd. My car makes 575/506 to the wheels. C6Z06 H/C+fbo and I had MT ET Streets (heavy C7Z replicas 19”).

But even still I am not sure I could’ve pulled past him even if I would’ve started in second definitely no 2 or 3 bus lengths. He beat me by about 2 car lengths. We ran from 50-140.

Thanks for that comparison. With ET streets traction should not have been an issue and it seems like your weight advantage vs his power advantage kept things close.

Sorry just poking fun buddy. I don't want to get off topic but your dyno numbers seem off a bit. Most heads cams and bolton builds make way more torque. maybe your setup needs tweaking a bit to get it where it needs to be?

I am making 600/550 ish

It may also be a difference in dynos (Mustang vs Dynojet etc.) between both of your Vettes, and then the GTRs.

Went to hang out with a friend this weekend and while we were out driving the RC trucks around we said we were going back to the house and telling our wives we are getting two door sports cars - with only two seats! He's getting a Porsche and I am getting a Vette. We are putting our feet down - nothing else is a priority!

It went over well

getting a four door sports car for the wife to be happy is like asking her to buy some high heels you could wear too.

Luckily I do not have to get a four door sports car. That is out of the question, even though a four door CTS-V is a good looking car.
