Default Oil temp ?

Now that the weather is getting cooler how long do you guys wait until you drive at all. I dont get into the gas until oil is at least 150 but what are your thoughts on start up oil temps.

Been discussed in great length. Start it and drive away.

It happens man. Mine is usually 60-80 degrees depending on weather. Just drive it like a cammed car until the oil temp is up. I actually deleted my cooler because it's TOO efficient for a non-tracked car. My oil temps NEVER see above 160*...haven't driven the car since the removal yet because of weather and exhaust install.

I am with the OP.. Guess I am a little OCD.. Typically allow my oil to warm up to 80-100 in the COLD weather before I leave my garage...Once up to 140 or so it on....

Here is the thread I started that asked pretty much the same question as the OP and got a lot of responses.

very bad idea, drive your car to warm it up!!!!!! cold idle dumps fuel and can contaminate oil which takes away from viscosity

I'd have to let my car idle in the garage for about 20 minutes for the oil to get even close to 100 degrees. That's madness. Once my oil temp starts rising at all (above ambient), I drive it. Usually about 2-3 minutes. Driving the car responsibly (< 3k RPM) for a few minutes is easier on the car then just letting it idle forever. Just my 2 cents.

So being new to a ZO6, and having noticed this, I bought one of these and put it around the bottom of the oil tank.

When it’s cool out, I just plug it in for 20minutes and the oil temp goes to about 140f.
of course once it starts, and circulates, it drops about 40f, but that’s still a heck of a head start when it’s 45f ambient.

Vette, idle until gauge moves, then take super easy until 150f.

Mustang, beat on it from start, don't care, it doesn't seem to mind or care.

I put a 150watt oil pan heater on my oil tank. I left it on overnight last week before the last drive and it was 32* in the morning and my oil temp was 108* at start up.

You're welcome. I used to do the same and got scolded by a few guys I respect. My oil usually smells a lot less like fuel now
