I Wound up installing the side skirts and used 3/16 large head exploding (star) rivets and did a test drilling one out with a 3/16 bit and it was so easy. It would take longer to remove those plastic screw rivets than it would to drill out the rivets. For the people on the fence I would recommend the exploding rivets as they are very easy to both install and remove.

Those Black Large Head Exploding Rivets seem like the BEST Fastener for the job.....
and fairly easy to remove.........

i can tell you this, I’d have both skirts off before you could get 5 of those rivers drilled. It’s literally no comparison for installation and removal. Working on cars isn’t a hobby for me, It’s my profession.

HouseS2K, The Plastic Rivets you use are NOT the Exploding Style Aluminum Head

HouseS2k, I believe youve shared the BEST choice for securing Skirts to Rocker Panels and I dont see
why this searching and discussion has to go on and on and on.............

But I am curious with all your BMW experience etc etc , WHY would not one of the expandable plastic
screw in or push in retainers work well......and removing might be easier than the Rivet ????

I'm also asking WHY in all this Skirt Fastener Discussion has no one mentioned the misc fasteners
required to secure the OE Flares (Mudguards) to Edge of Qtr Panels as using "SCREWS" into the Fiberglass
is just WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

On the BELOW pic I dont understand how the ZR1's use that Push In Expanding device
as when I remove the Hex Head Screw from my Grand Sport there is a White Nylon "piece"
that takes a Thread Screw............

In my experience, I believe the reason BMW uses the rivets over push clips is due to wanting something to be semi permanent over removable. We use the rivets all over the place, especially on the plastic fender flares on the SUV’s. They hold wayyyy tighter than a push clip. It maybe a consumable, but it holds way better.

HouseS2k, I am going to order the BMW "Swordfish" Rivet" as linked below

Amazon page states that Flange Diameter is 20mm which is Quite Large and
in my case may not fit properly against skirts with my pre-drilled Holes.....
We shall see ?????
