tell me more about the parts list... What do they buy me? I already would be getting a new throw out bearing in the clutch install, but what benefit is the billet one, and the rest of it?
sure....
there is a plastic piece on the stock slave cylinder that the bearing rides on that can overheat and melt and have to be replaced. It’s not that common, but since the effort to get there is so high if it does have a problem that now is the time to do it.

The slave bleeder is nigh impossible to reach so a remote bleeder will let you actually flush and bleed it with minimal work.

The oem harmonic balancers can go bad but, I’ll backtrack on this one - I believe the ls3’s had the big issues. Plus the warranty concerns might mandate oem. Which would probably be fine.

If you dont track your car, the oil mods aren’t necessary. And even if you did, unless you were pulling long hard lateral g’s - cornering - it would probably be fine. But Improved Racing’s oil pan baffle is easy to install and quick to put in with the motor out. Not easy or quick to install with motor in.

motormounts go bad on these things - on every car, really - so do it now while it’s all apart.

Thanks for the explanations - I will ask on these. we are going to bleed the clutch as part of a PM anyways so we will be in the clutch.

Side note - I am really disappointed in the maintenance the dealership has done and the many little things they missed.

It is frustrating that machine shop errors at a supplier have caused so many problems with what is arguably the greatest NA engine GM ever built.

My thought process is that its bolted to the rotating assembly (crank)...and if by some stroke of bad luck you spin a bearing; right or wrong, it gives them something to point at.

Not to hijack... doesn't the Improved Racing oil pan baffle require the ARP main studs for installation? I haven't looked at their site lately...
Congrats on the new engine!

Congrats on the new engine!

No. As it is a baffle that goes inside the oil pan. It mounts using a spacer and two screws inside the pan. ARP mains have nothing to do with it. They do make a crank scraper and windage tray kit that can be bought for use with ARP main studs or without. But that is not an oil pan baffle. I use both baffle and crank scraper.

from my discussions on this - the LS7's actually have a flaw. It is in the Valve to valve guide angle that I was told the valve wants a specific angle but the guide is .5 degrees off from that. I honestly think this is 100% a design flaw to a great motor. If every single head seems to get an issue - a supplier would get its *** handed to it for a bad part, or spec.

Anecdotally, I heard the valve is set at something like 12 degrees but the valve guide is something like 12.5 degrees (or vice versa) so the car just running would apply a load to the brass guides that would over time impact the guide. I am not an expert or anything so I would not want to be considered an 'authority'. but a titanium valve pressing a brass guide would likely yield the guide being basically sawed.

My personal opinion is still - design flaw in the valve and guide alignment PURELY on the high incident rate of failure. others in this thread just add to this conviction. Valves dropping or out of spec in 30k miles???

I believe it is a machining flaw, not a design flaw. If it were a design flaw it would have impacted all my valves, not one. The machining at the vendor had too much allowed variation causing angles to be off in some cylinders. The shop that repaired mine machined them to the proper GM spec and 22,000 miles later no problem.

I can accept this also. machining variance could also allow for that .5 degree.

But all these replacements and failures and GM has not refined the spec the vendor is baselined against? this is years in the making for the ls7.

The parts are robust enough and most of the cars almost never see high RPM operation so it took years to show up in enough volume to be apparent. Now GM won’t admit it.

I literally reported my initial problems at <15k... if you see the above shop Z28 references this is a 9 year issue.

Guide to seat concentricity, or lack thereof by GM's supplier (Linamar) is what you're referring to...and can easily be remedied by a machine shop that understands the tolerances involved in a proper concentric valve job.

Official approval granted to replace the long block. so now I await a large shipping crate. Looks like I will get the car home in time for March.

Motor is ordered. I expect it show up end of next week, or lastest the beginning of the following week. While the motor is out, we are doing a stock replacement of the clutch and flywheel, tires, and the shop will go through the whole car looking for issues like dying motor mounts, etc.

somehow even with the motor being warrantied I will end up poorer

Curious...did they diagnose or give you an explanation of the internal failure? They must have seen something evident enough to warrant a new motor.
