Default Advice Needed: Mounting ZR1 Flares to Grand Sport

I'm wanting to use OE Fasteners, Screws, Hardware to mount the below pictured ZR1 flares to my
2012 Grand Sport. I will then Mount aftermarket Skirts to the Flare (bottoms) and Rivet To Rockers.

Do you have any pictures showing Flares OFF of your ZR1 and/or pics of Factory Hardware.......

The BELOW Timmerman nut may or MAY NOT be what Torx Head Screws go into
The BELOW Plastic Rivet Devices may or MAY NOT be correct ????
Need YOUR factual advice !!!!!!!!!!

take your time. tesr fit at least 5 times to understand how all of this stuff actually fits, not somebody's idea of how it should might sorta kinda fits. id use double sided tape not rivets for at least the first real fit on the car. its easier to move if you must move something, this way you can use a few pieces of tape and then can mark holes with a better chance of success in the end. get somebody to help you, you'll be glad you have some extra hands and eyes. These parts will have some weird angles at the flair/skirt attachment, so my advice comes from experience working on customers cars.

Are these the OEM ZR1 skirts? They look fantastic compared to some of the aftermarket stuff I have seen. Do they fit Z06?

MY opening paragraph implies they are AFTERMARKET SKIRTS (Kapalini/Ebay) which honestly I have not yet fit to
my car. I concluded i DID NOT LIKE the Kapalini Fiberglas Flares...and after searching the Aftermarket I decided the
only FLARE that would make me happy was the OE ...which I paid $216 at TrunkMonkey (GM dealer in Oregon)

I have now found all the factory part numbers of the attachment fasteners....but not yet purchased them

Are the flares the part that go in the wheel well? Those are the parts that look OE. Let us know what skirts you settle on. I like the idea of matching the factory black trim such as the front lip and fender liners on the Z06.

however Im painting the skirts either Gloss Black or Carbon Black
same with fron ZR1 Splitter

SCRIVET Installed thru Skirt into Front Fender Feels secure but screw never gets tight ????

Another Form of Plastic Push Lok,,,Ive not yet tried

Asking for HELP for Experienced Owners/Installers

Ive now mounted the Right Side ZR1 (OE/GM) Flare
and Temporarily Hung the Kapalini/EBAY Skirt to the
Flare and to front two OE/Factory Underbody Screws.

I'm wanting to comprehend and decide who BEST to fasten
length of skirt to Rocker Panel. Ive watched most of the videos
I can find and would rather not rivet , but will if I conclude thats best.

Anybody know if the plastic SCRIVET will work to hold tight and secure

How about the Washer Head Screw Im showing

How thick is Rocker I'll be drilling thru ????

Rear of ZR1 (Fiberglas/KapaliniBrand) fastened to bottom of OE?GM Flare

Temporary Fasteners holding Skirt to Flare

Factory OE fasteners holding front of Skirt to Underbody

Do I drill/fasten thru flat area going UP

Do I drill thru radius/curved portion of Skirt

3/16 Rivet with 5/8" Dia Head or Washer Head Screw into Fiberglass ????

Plastic SCRIVET with Threaded Screw too expand rear portion

I'd stick with 3m double sided tape, at least initially, holes don't go away on their own if you decide to remove the pieces in question.

I thought you were going in a different direction from the Kapelini? Let us know if you end up liking them. I bought a set of ExtremeOnlineSales and the holes did not align in the front so sent them back.

Etazbaz, I DID NOT like the Kapalini Fiberglas Flares that came with the "K" Skirts ..........so I bought ($216) the OE Flares from Trunk Monkey.
Ive previously said I was going to keep/use the Kapalini Skirts and so far I am "trying".

There are NOT ANY HOLES in the Kapalini Skirts , so you have to pierce those yourself as you go or as you mount them

Above you can SEE what Ive done and Im now reaching OUT to others TRYING to conclude how best to fasten remaining
length of skirt.... pop Rivets are my last resort

Ive read where several other members have used/installed the EOS skirts, so find it "interesting" WHY you say the front holes didnt
line up???? WITH the TWO OE/GM underbody screws ????

Per some other folks I aligned and mounted the EOS flares first then bottomed out the EOS skirts to the flares. That is when I realized the front holes didn't line up. Actually there was almost no material in the skirt tabs over the existing rocker holes to put in new holes. Otherwise I would have done that. I agree the OE flares are the way to go. But not sure which skirts to use yet. Once I identify a skirt I like, my plan is to use the existing front rockers screws for the skirt and the skirt to flare screws but only use 3M tape in the middle. If I like the way it looks then I might consider drilling into the rockers.

I ordered the OE ZR1 flares and the EOS Carbon skirts. Decided to try to make them work. Have you figured out the screw situation for the flares? I think the torx head screws from the front inner fender liner look right but haven't figured out what the part number is or how to mount them yet. Will visit my local dealer to get their advice.

Etazbaz, I found similar (not the same) Torx Head fasteners and the extruded U-Clips at a Local Salvage yard
which I removed from other late model wrecked GM cars.

I'm using three of these U'clips along the edge of lip of the qtr panel and also using the white nylon
piece that is already there on my 2012 GS.

I do not want to Rivet Bottom of Flares to Rear Of Skirts
I have stainless Button Head Allen Bolts with Nylok Nuts
OR I may use more of the same GM junk yard TORX
with the Extruded U Clips on Skirts side

The junk yard GM TORX head screws I found had captured washers that I removed
as the washer dia was too big for this application

I can help you with part numbers but I wasnt willing to pay the
rip off fastener prices from a Chev Dealer

I bought Plastic large Dia Head Pop rivets on AMAZON with which to fasten the
skirts. I'm using EBAY/KAPALINI Skirts that Ive had painted CARBON FLASH.
I'm wanting more info, more pics on the EOS skirts that they offer to paint CARBON FLASH ?????
and the ZR1 splitter.

I found screws and clips at NAPA and used those. Really like the look. They are philips instead of torx but I'm OK with that considering how much I saved over GM parts.

Side by side shot of the EOS vs OEM ZR1 flares. The EOS flares are junk and went straight in the garbage. Why can't they have pre-drilled holes like the OEM flares? Same tolerances.

Used the flares as a template and drilled into the quarter panels then used the NAPA clips.

I also cut the clips so that I could use the same screws to attach the skirts to the flares. The clips are too long as-is for that application. One of my carbon skirts was bowed away from the car. Attached the skirt to the flares and screwed my way towards the front. Then bowed the skirt in and screwed to body then finished screwing in the rest of the skirt.

Really happy with the final result. It took me probably 3-4 hours since I test fit multiple times before drilling into the car. I bought the 3M tape but ended up not using it. Looked like it was going to be a big hassle with the skirts not fitting perfectly w/o bending towards car. I think I used 10-11 of the self-tapping screws that came with the EOS skirts. Final note to those looking to do the same to their cars. If you are looking at the EOS skirts skip the primered plastic ones. Go straight to carbon. I ordered the plastic ones first and they looked terrible. You have to have them painted. With paint they exceed the cost of the carbon ones.

Use a drill the size of the minor diameter of the screws.

Etazbaz, I understand exactly what youve done. I still like my "junkyard" (FREE) Torx Head Screws and the EXTRUDED style GM U clips
but I'm sure your set up will be fine.

I started out with my C7/Carbon Fiberglas ZR1 Splitter which I had C7 paint Gloss Black ($434).
Then I decided to add the skirts and after reading about KAPALINI (EBAY) on Corvette Forum I ordered
those, including crappy flares (mudflaps) for $139. I bought OE Flares from Trunk Monkey for $216
A friend suggested I paint everything CARBON FLASH so $400 later My Splitter and Skirts are Carbon Flash.

Recently Ive seen the EOS ZR1 Carbon Fiber Skirts and Splitter for $670. ARE THESE REAL CARBON FIBER
Or some kind of Wrap over ????

What dont you like about the EOS Poly???? ZR1 Plastic Skirts and Splitter

I have not been a fan of the Carbon Fiber "LOOK" but after the difficulty and expense of getting my
Kapalini Skirts and C7/Carbon Splitter painted ($400/ NOT a perfect job)....I may have to buy the
EOS Carbon Fiber pieces when/if I replace my current "stuff"

I have purchased Large Head PLASTIC RIVETS to attach my Skirts

I hope this conversation helps others with their similar project

The EOS carbon is real not a wrap which is why they were so stiff and a hassle to straighten out which prevented me from using the tape. The poly parts were primered and the primer scratches very easily. They were scratched when I pulled them out of the box. They would need to be painted. If the poly parts were molded out of the same resin as the GM stuff then it would be fine but it is not. Lastly the poly flares that ship with both the poly skirts and carbon skirts have no pre-drilled holes. I was able to hang the ZR1 flares from the single existing hex screw and use the other holes as a template to drill out the other three holes for the flares and side skirts. The NAPA screws and clips provide a very strong interface between parts and the self-tapping screws I believe are plenty strong even without tape. I lowered the car on coilovers and got some new 19/20 rims. Will post pics of the finished car once the alignment is done. Too much camber at the moment from lowering the car about 1-1/4". The skirts really do complete the look.

Etazbaz (Real Name ???) Thanks for the great conversation.........Can you say how pleased you are with "THE LOOK" of the EOS
Carbon Fiber ???? How about covering the Carbon Fiber with Protective Paint Film (PPF) or overkill ????

I look forward to seeing your finished project AND I will post pics of mine also.
I'm busy with finishing my ARH Header Project. Powder Coating Calipers etc etc

Do the Carbon Fiber EOS skirts have the mounting holes already marked or how do you
know exactly where to place holes IF you wanted to replace a bad skirt on a real C6 ZR1 ???
