Default C6 Z shifter

I have a buzzing in my shifter. Can it be fixed or do I need to replace it. I read the c6 base shifter was quieter. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Hear good things about this guy
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ter-boxes.html

I had the same problem was going to rebuild the lower box but decided to go new. I bought the MGW shifter because I had problems with the screws that hold the shifter in backing out due to vibration. The MGW shifter has locking screws the prevent this from happening and definitely has no high RPM buzz. https://www.mgwshifters.com/shifters/corvettes Either way should take car of the issue.

Just want to make sure. The noise I’m hearing is mostly in second gear under hard acceleration but will go away once rpms get about 5000. If I pull the shifter to one side it will quit. Just driving around it’s quiet and shift smooth.

Sounds about right. Mine was there in 1,2,3 if i left my hand on the shifter it would mostly go away. The lower box is the problem, bushings on the shaft linkage wear out fast allowing the shaft to vibrate. At 750hp my Z tends to find weakness fast! lol

Do I order one for a z or a base. I was told the base has rubber mounts and the z was solid mount.

If you plan on having Tom rebuild your current lower you can talk to him directly on the link above. I think he is selling a short throw shifter now also. The MGW shifter is the same for both models i believe.

New lower box from dealer isn't that pricey. Just get a new non-worn out one.

I thought Tom has some that you have to send yours back after as a core.

06-09 C6Z's came with solid brass bushings. GM changed this in 2010+ because of this issue...and all C6's came with the rubber (base) bushings thereafter. You could pull console and re-tighten the two mounting bolts which may fix it. Your (upper) shifter and shift **** are still OE, or?

yes my shifter and **** are stock. I ordered a new unit from the dealer today. It was only 140 bucks. I’ll try it and see if it fixes it.
