Default Stock size Carbon brakes

Ran through the forums, and I found some pretty dated posts on this... like 10 year old threads but nothing recent.

Are there any companies that make a stock size carbon ceramic replacement to the steel rotors on the z06? Something that doesn’t require a caliper upgrade, larger rotor, larger wheels etc,.

Thanks fellas.

RPS. They don't list them on their website or angthing but they can make you carbon rotors. You will pay dearly for them.

I’m sure it’s still less than that 10-14k to upgrade to carbon ceramics on the zr1 or z07 lol...

thanks, I’ll reach out to them

Well you can upgrade to ZR1 ceramic brakes for about $7000-7500 if you shop around for the parts. That's what I spent on new components when I upgrade mine on the GS in 2017.

Part of the reason carbon ceramic rotors are so much larger than their cast iron counterparts is that they require a larger surface area to be as effective. The only drawback is the need for larger diameter wheels. I went with Centennial Cup wheels as I knew there wouldn't be any fitment issues with them, but you are limited on the tire sizes when you go 19/20" wheels.

Your GS looks nice like that. It’s the perfect wheel and brake set up for the car.

I want to stick with the stock size so I can just toss some 17’s on the back and go to the drag strip on occasion when all the friends go, and have the added capability for some hpde. I’m never going to be a professional, but just looking to squeeze a little more out of it... but even 7k is a bit out of my price range for the brakes. I still need to do delrin bushing on control arms and suspension, trying to stay in a budget that the wife wont divorce me over lol

Don't be so sure, man.

Regardless of company, you'll pay no less than 1200 to 1800 per rotor, and chances are likely that you'll have to upgrade your caliper (and of course your pad) as well. Carbon ceramics always have a significantly larger sweeping area hence why much larger calipers are normally used. I think you're gonna end up finding that buying the OEM stuff may actually end up being less. Think i've seen them listed for around $8K before, which is actually a pretty amazing deal considering how the rotors themselves are easily over $6K.

Not saying it's impossible to not use the stock caliper, but i'd strongly question why ceramics are always so much larger.

At any rate, good luck with yout search, and be sure to let us know what you find out.

Haha thanks, I’m still going up a river without a paddle.

Is it the thickness of the rotor? Or just general diameter. Thickness I would guess?

I imagine somebody could take a good portion of the rotor market share if stock carbon ceramic was an option with stock z06 calipers, if they came in around 1000-1400 per rotor. Big brake kit, or carbon ceramic stock size? I am thinking a certain percent would go with carbon ceramic, whether right or wrong lol...

With the right wheels you can go 18/18 with the stock ZR1/Z07 rotors. A lot more tire options than 19/20.

Well that’s really all I’m after is going 18/18... I thought I read somewhere here that you couldn’t do 18/18 with zr1 carbon ceramic brakes

Not all 18s will clear but some are made for CCBs and will clear.

Couple friends of mine had to grind the caliper just a touch for clearance with 18's.

Is there any reason you want carbons? AP brake kits save weight (even over carbons) and have proven to last longer when pushed hard.

I haven’t been able to find anybody that is doing a stock size rotor replacement for the c6z... so I’ll orobably wait for the right deal on z07/zr1 rotors and calipers, and then wheels to match. It seems like going from c6z to carbon ceramics with wheels to match I’m looking at at a minimum of 10k based on everything I’ve learned... requiring rotors, calipers, pads and wheels....

Ifs a shame nobody’s selling just the right sized rotors. There’s certainly a market for it. I’ll would imagine. And at 1200-1600 per rotor, all in maybe 6k? Beats 10k. Wish I had the shop to do if myself.

Soubds like a project next winter, with all the suspension upgrades, then I can tie a bow on it... to me, the z07 package is really something worth spending the extra 8k on, just for brakes alone

i haven’t actually looked into ap brake kits. After some quick reading on them, I may actually try them first. Thanks for the suggestion, I’m going to look into those some more.
