Is upgrading cam worth the cost

I just got off the phone with Gavin at SPS in Kent, Washington. Great guy, very informative. He had nonthing but good things to say about AHP but he put together a package for me that it would be hard to refuse and they have a shop (TMS Performance) they work with there that will do the labor work for $880.00 (8 hrs @ $110.00) They service your heads, valve job, use powdered guides, polish intake valves, use solid stems, new OEM head-bolts TTY, upgrade to Comp 7228-16 Conical .625 Valve Springs, mill the heads, head gasket, new oil and filter and antifreeze, filter flush, spark plugs for $1,725.00 plus $880.00 labor = $2,605.00. 2-day turn around.
Our current price to remove, rework your heads into our "basic" package 4 heads (w/ our PM guides) and reinstall with all parts (our head install kit) and labor is $3,350 (plus misc and tax on parts).

Thanks again for all the feedback! I just dropped my Z off with SPS Cylinder Heads in Kent, Washington yesterday, then they gave me a ride to the airport. I’ve really enjoyed talking with Gavin at SPS and his associates. I decided to go with the basic head fix package. They service the heads, valve job, use powdered guides, polish intake valves, use solid stems, new OEM head-bolts TTY, upgrade to Comp 7228-16 Conical .625 Valve Springs, mill the heads, head gasket, new oil and filter and antifreeze, filter flush, spark plugs for $1,725.00 plus $880.00 labor = $2,605.00. 2-3 day turn around. Interested to see what they find on the valve guides etc., once the heads are removed for inspection! Will keep you posted.

I’d get the TI valves recoated or new TI valves. Too many reports of new guides failing with old valves. Still too rough after polish.
If you street drive and you’re unsure if you want a cam or not, and you do end up going for one, get a torquey street cam. If you go for a low tq high hp cam cause you’re chasing internet numbers you are more likely to be unhappy with the cam, that was my experience. Putting my second cam aftermarket cam in with the new build cause I hated the first one.

If your oem valves have been moving around Id recommend new ones, less likey to have one come apart. The wider the head/skinner stem the higher risk it has. Splitting hairs really but-

I picked up my Z06 yesterday from SPS Cylinder Heads, Kent, Washington (253) 655-5727. I had dropped it off on 03/13/19 and it was ready to go on 03/15/19! Unfortunately I was out of state and couldn't pick it up till yesterday. I couldn't be happier with the overall service and communication with the business owner and employees! The business owner was in the area of the Seattle Airport when I flew in and he picked me up and brought me back to the shop. Very knowledgeable guy, great personality! It turned out my valves guides were within specs at 48K miles. That was refreshing to know but I decided since I was there I needed to go ahead and have the head package performed! SPS is setup to do pretty much anything you need/want done to your Corvette or Mustang or Dodge period! They provided me pictures of the work throughout the process. They will listen to your needs, make professional suggestions and make sure your happy with the finished product and stand behind there work! I drove 270 miles back home to Eugene, smiling all the way! Awesome experience.......If I was rating the overall experience on a scale of 1-5, I would have to give them a 5. The owner had a C7 Z06 he let me drive, yes pretty impressive but I’m very happy with my C6 Z06! Safe travels.....Again thanks for all your suggestions! Roy
