They will both make similar power. If you want a true cold air go with the vararam. If you want a better fitting, better quality intake go Haltech 100%. I wanted a true cold air intake but wanted a better quality intake so I went with the Callaway Honker.

Okay. My setup I am running on my Z is

Nick Williams 102 throttle body
LSXR Fast 102 intake
Valve guide issue fixed
Johnston lifters
BTR Stage 2 cam kit
Upgraded Oil pump
Headers
Exhaust
Tuned..

I do like the cold air intake idea better, but have heard a lot of good about halltech is it worth the price difference though I guess is what I'm asking..

I did an unscientific study a few years ago and determined that Vararam equipped cars outnumbered all the other cars combined, who ran 10.99 or quicker with either just boltons or internals.
That is obviously not the only determining factor, but it does bear mentioning, since it was a component preferred by the quickest racers.

you can’t go wrong with either. The vararam is the choice of intake for RaceProvenMotorsports. Their heads/cam packages make great power with that intake.

I’m just not a fan of the level of hacking the radiator shroud required to install the Vararam. That’s a high pressure area forcing cool air through your radiator, and all that cutting can negate cooling efficiency. I prefer the MF103/108 or Callaway honker. You can go one step further and add a “Vette Air” scoop in conjunction with the MF103/108 which requires minimal trimming of the shroud.

I prefer the Halltech on my 08 Z... I am with Mike, I am not a fan of hacking things up.. Although I did add the Vette Aire scoop....

is your motor stock? Did you have it tuned? Feel any performance gains (I know this can be very subjective)?

I would recommend either the Halltech or Callaway Honker. From my research these are probably the best two intakes on the market when it comes to quality and performance, the Vararam performs just as well but the quality isn't there imo. If you don't want to have to go through the hassle of cutting up the shroud then go with the Halltech.

im running ported and decked heads, kooks 1 7/8 primary tube headers, stock cam, the mf103 with vette air scoop, yes its tuned. the performance gains are subjective, but I do believe that there is a real power gain from the CAI.

I went from VR to Halltech 108/Vette Air Scoop and I liked the 108/Vette Air combo better. My 108 is FS though as I am going Hi-Ram.
