06 z06 buy
i am considering buying a a 06 zo6 with 96,000 miles , until i found out about all these problems , i asked the seller about it and he said its been serviced regularly at dealership and as far as he knew
the dropping valve was on later models not 06 , the car is factory stock still with factory exhaust , wants 22,500 for the car . now im freaked . should i look for a regular corvette ? i do not have
good luck , and im not rich , but always wanted a vette before i die , lol. what does the braintrust think .?
if new motor is over 15,000 hell thts almost price of car and i do not have that type of coin ,

Just fix the heads if you're worried about the valves. I put Ferrea hollow stems in my 2008 Z06 and never looked back. New owner tracks the car now, and it's still rock solid. Granted, the car had other problems that I had to work through (a lobe got ground off the after-market camshaft, so I had to do a complete tear down and rebuild of the engine thanks to the resulting metal shavings everywhere). My philosophy was, "If it breaks, upgrade!". That got real expensive real quick, though.
These "Z0s" and "ZRs" are essentially factory-built race cars. They will all require expensive maintenance. A set of tires alone can set you back $1500-2000 depending. Oil changes are more expensive since they are higher capacity, brakes are more expensive, and then there's the "Vette tax" on pretty much anything you plan to do with it. But, for me, nothing can beat it for the price to performance ratio.
Best of luck in your decision process.

Its going to be a possible issue on all cars. The other thing you have to think is any of these types of cars, whether it be GM, Dodge, Ferrari, etc..........any purpose built performance car is going to have expensive maintenance issues. Like others have said, its the perfect excuse to build the heads and do a new cam! My car has 14k miles on it & I'm still prepared to shell out to replace the heads. Also in the grand scheme of sports cars, these aren't that expensive. I was downright giddy when I saw the price of a decent heads/cam package compared to my old Viper GTS or MKIV Supra heads haha. I'd say buy the car, you'll love it!

Spot on advise/suggestions! This dude has owned pretty much all three of the best cars made in the last 30 years in my opinion. He’s definitely a man with excellent taste in cars. If it’s possible try not to squeeze into a ZO6 that’s questionable and at the max limit if your budget. Even the best ZO6 or any model C6 is going to require attention and maintenance to keep it healthy, the “Corvette Tax” is a real thing so depending on what car your coming from parts/maintenance will be significantly higher....you gotta pay to play in this game my man. Good luck with the hunt! This forum can be an amazing resource use it to your advantage, someone on here probably lives within an hour of you or the car your interested in, you’d be surprised what complete strangers on here will do to help assist guys with Corvettes or ones looking to join the club! Not sure your location but it won’t be difficult to ask a forum members to go look at one for you if it’s out of your range or find a guy who’s close to check one out with you. I used CarGurus during my year long hunt and really liked that site/app check it out! The for sale section on here is an excellent resource as well. 🇺🇸

He's charging you Blue Book value - https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/corvet...=retail#survey
Anything less.. buy with both hands!
Does it have all the options (NAV display would mean it's fully optioned.) Does the interior look nice?
If all you can think about is the "valve dropping problem", then "captain_vette" is right.. move on to some other model.

Welcome to the forum & you are looking at a great platform in a Z06! Once you drive the car, it will be tough to settle on a base model, that's for sure

Buy a base model if you don't have $10k extra laying around for all the what ifs that can happen with an ls7. The rods could go out, bearings, heads, hell even a clutch can be a $2-4k job.

Something about this "deal" in my opnion. Just Sayin.
Why do you need a ZO6? Why not buy the best Corvette you can find and simply enjoy it. I have a 2007 base coupe which I bpought new and the car has been more than perfect for 37K miles.
Not trying to sell you mine, but simply suggesting there are lots of Corvettes for sale this one in question, from your description doesn't sound like the right car, especially if it's your first one
Without any other details, this one. sounds like it's been drivin fast ans put away wet.
Above all, take your prospective car buy to a dealer, or, preferably a Corvette specialist. If the one your considering checks out, so be it. Sounds like a decent price for a ZO6, but a suspicios example otherwise.
