Default Dumb question about stock z06 exhaust removal

I searched, but couldn't find an answer I was looking for as it seems its skipped over a lot when explaining how to install exhaust systems hah. I am having issues removing the passenger side stock muffler. The driver side came out fine once we dropped parts of the suspension, but for some reason the passenger side can't seem to get through. Is there a trick to this? I hit up YouTube, but it seemed like most videos I found, like searching this forum were more about putting on aftermarket and they didn't really explain any of the nuances of removing the old stock stuff.

Also, after disconnecting the solenoid for the exhaust mild to wild. Do you need to do anything with them or can you just leave them sitting there? I didn't see any easy way to remove the line and I traced it up as far as I could.

I have to say of all the cars I've owned this is 1 of the more interesting ones. Nothing about it is particularly difficult, but just getting to some stuff takes some longer steps than I'm used to. Its a lot of fun and I can't wait to see what it sounds like from stock to hopefully soon CAI, headers, xpipe with no cats, and exhaust. Thanks!

I have to loosen the rear cradle and drop it down a little in order to get the clearance needed. It took hours to get it out but once I loosened the cradle it basically just fell out. Good luck!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Haha. I've never had basic bolt ons take this long. Its definitely fun just working on cars, but I think had I to do it again I might just have a shop do it. I was also shocked how the stock air intake seems pretty inefficient for a car like this. Definitely see how guys pick up some good power by just adding a CAI.

I only pulled my stock mufflers to put ones on that had the muffler mod. I told myself I would never do that again but I am getting the itch to install an Akrapovic system so I see pain and suffering again in the near future. What system did you install?

06-08
- disconnect rear sway bar from k-member (15mm wrench and 18mm socket)
- remove lower shock mounts,
- loosen but do not remove 4 nuts that mount k-member to frame
- disconnect muffler from systems and remove, watch out for the evap canister (black box on frame, next to transmission)

09-13
- disconnect rear sway bar from k-member (15mm wrench and 18mm socket)
- disconnect muffler from systems and remove, watch out for the evap canister (black box on frame, next to transmission)
- may have to bend tray above mufflers for clearance

Borla Atak. My neighbors are lucky, they get another day or so of peace & quiet before I start driving through again! I don't think my neighbor behind me will care too much. He's a car guy. Has a Camaro and a Ferrari F430. The family to my other side though probably won't be too pleased.

Thank you! We were running into a little black box on the passenger side. I'm guessing thats the evap canister now. Thanks for clearing that up. Wasn't sure what it was.

Default 2006 z06

I think also on the early 2006 cars they had more if an issue that was either fixed by late 2006 or2007. Something g about how over axle tube was bent.

I have an 06 and it's been a while since I replaced the stock exhaust, but I'm pretty sure I just dropped the sway bar and removed the rear splash pan/tray and I was able to get the passenger side out (did not need to drop the cradle or remove the lower shock mounts). I admit it wasn't easy, but with patience it did come out. Of course a lift made it easier, don't know if I could have done it without a lift.

I removed my factory exhaust on m 06Z successfully but it was a lot of wiggling an pulling. To actually think I could have lowered the rear subframe never crossed my mind 8 years ago. LOL

Accompanied by some truly creative vocabulary.
Glad to see that I wasn't the only one. Don't know why it didn't occur to me to just drop the cradle....

I am very glad I'm not the only one!

Searching the forum yielded a lot of people sharing the same frustrations. Finally got the thing put back together last night. It was made extra difficult because the Borla exhaust was damaged during shipping so 1 of the inlets to the muffler was dented and it already is a tight squeeze to get everything together up there. Here is what we accomplished at 11pm last night. I'm sure my friend's neighbors who heard it really appreciated that thing driving through the neighborhood on a week night hah. I did try to limp it through with a lot of coasting in neutral, but its pretty loud. I think its louder than my Viper GTS with a similar setup.

Double check the rubber evap hose on passenger side for clearance, I had to shorten the hose couple inches to get it away from the pipe. Also double check brake line to pipe clearance on drivers side.
