I don't think it will be called "Z06"
Why would it be? Back in 2000, we may have expected the high performance model to be called "ZR-1" before we knew what the official designation would be.
I don't think it'll be called a Z06. Maybe Z07. Or Z08. Maybe Z9eF4.
Or better yet...
Just Stingray.

I don't think it should have a name...maybe just a symbol
The car formerly known as Z06 :)
Honestly, I was thinking Z07 too but that's kind of been taken by one of the aftermarket tuners right? (can't remember who off the top of my head) so I'm not sure if that would do it justice.
I don't know enough about vette history to know any other designations.

I can't see GM using the same designation either. It would be a stupid move.
I would expect them to take another "Z" designation out of the past (just as ZR1 and Z06 were taken from 60's option codes). Maybe ZL1 is the best guess right now.

Re: I don't think it will be called "Z06" (Thud)
I have heard from a few well informed sources that it will be called:
C6 GT not Z06
It will also have a removable hard top too.
Has anyone else heard anything like this also???

If they use a 427 smallblock (I can't see them using a bigblock) I would love to see the L88 designation brought back for the engine. :) MJ

Corvette SS?
But seriously, folks...
Z06 has massive brand-name recognition these days, and it's all good. Look for GM to leverage that investment rather than toss it and start over.
I would very much like to see "Sting Ray" adorn a production Corvette in the future, but I'm not holding my breath. It just seems to go against the grain of modern automotive nomenclature.
Are there any other cars on the market today with a (non-functionally-oriented) named variant of a named car?

It's all about marketing, positive name-brand recognition, and popular association. "Z06" may have meant "factory racer" to Corvette cognoscenti back in 2000, but now any gearhead and even ricers think "bad azz C5 that can whup serious butt". Even the stupid ricers get the message. Some 6 year old kid the other day exclaimed: "wow, dad look..that's a Z06" as I got out of my car the other day.
Think GM will let that go? Never :D

Maybe ZL1 is the best guess right now.
Especially if this car made the move to a big block displacement. It would be very appropriate

According to Dave Hill at The Forum's own Cuise-In 4, the Z06 will remain a Z06.

I have been wondering this all along myself. And even though it would be a good marketing idea to reuse the Z06, it makes you wonder then why didn't they reuse the ZR1 name? It has all the same recognition as the Z06 name does now. And when the Z06 first came out it didn't have any of that.... :skep:

P.S. It was available for the convertible, just to fuel the "why only an FRC" debate.
