Do you think they will offer
Navigation and the bells and whistles on the Z06... as most of you know.. I like those things.. added them to my 02 Z.. I just wondered.. I love HP and lots of it... but I do like comfort and the extras when traveling... Just wondered if they would be options...
OR
Do you think it will be a high powered stripped down version ?
Just wondered everyone's thoughts...

Re: Do you think they will offer (Traceys2vettes)
Can only speculate..but I think some of the new improved stuff will work it's way on to it. Then again, they may want to make the car marketable to a wider range of people also.

I think it'll have most of what the Coupe has, option-wise. Ferrari and Lamborghini can do it, so why can't Chevy?
HUD will be standard. Too many people already rave about its utility on the track. Nav probably won't be available, not like it adds much weight to begin with.
I think most of the Z06's weight losses will be in body panels and the frame, not from option deletes.

If I recall, Z06 started as a stripper and then later gained many of the high-demand options from the coupe and convertible.
I expect that C6 Z06 will start with more available equipment because GM now has a better idea of what the customers want, but some of the new-for-C6 options may take a year to find their way to C6 because their overall popularity is uncertain. Navigation is one such question mark, though I suspect they'll offer it up front just because it's such a huge-profit item.
I don't think Z06 buyers are significantly different from Corvette buyers. As long as the big motor is exclusive to the Z06 there will be a lot of luxury bleed into it.

GM still SUCKS.

Tracey,
If the Z is going to hold true to it's heritage of being the all out performance Corvette, then that starts in design. Get the weight down. Get the horsepower up. That means things like redesigning everything to weigh less. Start with what is stock and work down from there. If you could lighten the wiring harness by a half pound, they'll do it. That means no hookups for the navigation system, no 6-stacker CD player, no heated seats. The list would go on and on which means limiting the available options.
After Maximum Bob Lutz said "the next Corvette will suck the doors off anything on the road" I could almost hear the engineers cringe. Now they have to come through. You know that everything in the current Z will be in the '06 version. Now the battle between marketing and design starts to see what will be offered as options.
With the Germans over at DaimlerChrysler rolling out the ME 4-12 and starting buzz about it being a production vehicle (yeah, right... there were only six guys that worked on the thing and it's all exotic metals and carbon fiber) that was the return shot against Ford's GT and the other supercars.
Reality is that Chevrolet will produce a normally aspirated car with higher horsepower than the 'normal' coupe and convertible. It might not reach 500 on it's debut year but it will be in the vicinity. Possibly cracking the big 5 number on later years, like the C5 Z introduction and following years. It's marketings job to sell cars and bumping up horsepower, even as little as 20 has made existing owners trade in the "old" one for the "new" one.
As far as a navigation system, there are other options. I have one that uses a Hewlett-Packard iPAQ PDA and a slip on sleeve containing a GPS antenna. It's from a company in New Zealand call Navman and I used it to go to the Birthday Bash. I prefer that to a built in as I can use it in all our cars, not just one. It weighs less than a pound. Is it as cool as what I saw at the Auto Show? No. But it will get me to my destination and that's all I need.
I don't know if I can hold out for a Z, especially if it's another FRC with very little visible difference when compared to the standard Corvette. I have been spoiled by the C5 'vert and the wind in what's left of my hair <grin>.....
