METHOD OF ENGINE CYLINDER BORE ENLARGEMENT

Abstract

A method is provided for forming enlarged cylinder bores in an engine based
on a family of internal combustion engines having an original cylinder bore
axis for each bore, wherein each cylinder bore is constrained against enlargement
toward one side. The method includes providing an offset axis parallel to the
original cylinder bore axis and spaced toward an opposite side of the cylinder
bore by a dimension equal to one half of a predetermined bore diameter enlargement,
and centering the enlarged cylinder bore on the offset axis. The method preserves
a minimum wall thickness from the cylinders to camshaft bores between the cylinder
banks while the outward enlargement dimension is preferably limited to a value
which does not require changing the cylinder head bolt pattern or reduce the
wall thickness below minimum values in other portions of the cylinders.

FUEL INJECTOR NOZZLE ADAPTER

Abstract

A fuel injector adapter for providing nitrous oxide to an internal combustion
engine is disclosed. The nozzle has a fuel injector passage, having a central
axis and terminating at an injector outlet, for passing fuel from a fuel
injector to an engine. The nozzle also has one or more first auxiliary passages,
which may be arranged in an annular pattern around the fuel injector passage,
and which terminate at first outlets. The nozzle furthermore may have one or
more second auxiliary passages, which also may be arranged in an annular
pattern around the fuel injector passage, and which terminate at second outlets.
The first auxiliary passages and second auxiliary passages are adapted to supply
nitrous oxide or other additional combustion reactants to the engine. The nozzle
may be attached to an engine intake and may be adapted to fit between a fuel
injector and an engine without substantial modification to the engine.

FAMILY OF MULTI-SPEED PLANETARY TRANSMISSIONS HAVING A CLUTCHED INPUT AND ONE STATIONARY MEMBER

Abstract

A family of transmissions having a plurality of family members each having three
planetary gearsets and six torque-transmitting mechanisms. The planetary gearsets
and the torque-transmitting mechanisms are interconnected such that at least seven
forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio can be established within the three
planetary gearsets and transmitted between an input shaft and an output shaft, by
selectively engaging the torque transmitting mechanisms in combinations of four.

FAMILY OF MULTI-SPEED PLANETARY TRANSMISSION MECHANISMS HAVING CLUTCH INPUT

Abstract

A family of power transmissions having first, second, and third planetary gearsets
and six torque-transmitting mechanisms. The first planetary gearset is continuously
interconnected with a member of the second planetary gearset and a member of the
third planetary gearset. The second planetary gearset is continuously interconnected
with a member of the third planetary gearset. The six torque-transmitting mechanisms
are selectively engaged in combinations of two to establish at least seven forward
speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio within the planetary gearsets.

Facinating. Makes the 427 an easy do off the Gen IV block. More importantly, lets the engineers play with the bore and stroke ratio without messing with the bore centers. I wonder if the cylinder boring machines can be easily adjusted to accomodate this off set. Further can they be adjusted without having to stop production for a reset or at least not take long to reset?

The nitrous patent is from Bowling Green because that is where is where Holly is based.

Now that I look more closely, I see that GM isn't holder of the
application but the name appears as

" [0110] Referring now to FIG. 9, an embodiment of the present invention has also
been adapted to operate within the confines of an engine compartment without
modifying the intake plenum 106 or the engine compartment environment. FIG. 9
shows eight identical nozzles 100 of the present invention installed on a LS1
(Corvette) engine, available from General Motors Corporation, headquartered
in Detroit, Mich. ..."

Guess I need to be more careful next time...
