[Z06] Z06... Collectible? Historic? Depreciating Asset?

I work with a guy who has two 1978 Corvette Limited Edition Pace Cars he bought new off the showroom floor in 1978.
He bought them for investment purposes and paid a premium price, they both have less than 12 miles on the odometer.
Without even factoring in the inflation rate, they are still worth less than what he paid for them 27 years ago.

I agree that it is a depreciating asset, but one day, this car will be recognized as a historic car in the Corvette lineage. The main reason I think this is because of the return of the 427 ci motor and the aluminum frame. I also think that the ZR1s are also a historic car, but as others have pointed out, that doesn't make them a good investment. So I wouldn't buy one as an investment, but when/if I buy one, I'll take great pride in it and drive it as it was meant to be driven, both on the street and track.

Look how rare the 65,000 dollar ZR1's are. You can get them for less than half that now. Moreover, dont forget that 65,000 dollar price in todays dollars is around 100,000. So at 30,000 today for a good example is a 70,000 dollar loss.
A cars value is in the happiness and enjoyment it brings you. That can be an asset.
Regarding vipers. at least the new ones, they can hardly sell them. Viper unfortunatly, from a competitor stand point, may be a thing of the past very soon. Too bad as competition fosters betterment for all brands.

A mint C3 is selling for around 25K. they cost in todays dollars around 35K.
so unless you are willing to wait 50 years, I would guess that you will never ever recover your cash.

2006 Z06 collectable for being the fastest out of all the c6z06 cars simply because its the lightest. Even better get the arctic white one its the one with the lowest production color for that year too. Thats my opionion.

There is NO C6 model which is a "investment" wise choice dollar wise. Fun factor, yes.
The Z06's 427 will be over soon enough. It still holds GM's record of being the fastest/naturally aspirated car they have built, ever. ZR1 still holds true for supercharged.
But, seeing that C7's LT1 will have more power and remain 6.2 liters, I doubt C6 will continue to hold any records. Nostalgia for big cubed lovers may set in at some point, as I know I'm keeping my 427 Vette permanently.
But, they are NO dollar investment vehicles for sure...for sure.
How did a 10 month old thread reappear?

When they are mass producing any car the odds of it being worth anything are slim. Look at the old Camaro's that sell for lots. They are all limited RPO cars or replicas that have 100k restore jobs that sell for 65k. Doesn't sound like much of an investment.

OK, I just had to put my 2 cents in. Depreciating asset, unless, you keep it all original for 30-40 years and have no more than 5,000 miles on it. I don't know about you, but I will be very old or dead in 30-40 years...so I don't care...I bought mine to possess it, look at it, drive it and enjoy it, that is all!
