Default ZR1 vs. Z06 Axles

There appears to be different axles for different year Z06's ('06-'08 differ from '09-'10) and ZR1's have different axles for each side. Can someone shed light on this? I assume that the left and right ZR1 axles may either be of different lengths or one may be greater in diameter. Can the ZR1 axles be used on an '08 Z06?
TIA

From what I understand ,the different size on the ZR1 is to help the rear end from hopping .Something about harmonic's. It hasn't fixed the problem but it's lot's better than ZO6 ever was !

Corvette actually borrowed this idea from HPVO and the CTS-V. And, on the V anyway, it completely solved the axle tramp/hop that was so endemic on the previous generation car. It was so bad it actually contributed to the destruction of differentials.

I've heard of no axle hop issues on the ZR1, so I'm curious as to where you got the "it hasn't fixed the problem". Have there been cases of hop?

A couple of week's ago someone here was talking about his hopping!
Mine has been perfect so far!I don't recall his exact situation or who !

The LH axle is larger on the ZR1 to stop the harmonics. It does not stop the wheel hop, but stops the harmonics from destroying the diff. The only issue is if you change anything in the rear of the car, it may no longer work. However you can use the ZR1 axle on both sides in a ZO6 as long as you are using the larger spline bearings. Now with that said it is also heavier and I have never seen and axle twisted so I would say that the larger axle is not needed unless you have a rwhp above a thousand and of course you are going to have allot of other parts in that driveline with issue before you even get to the axles.

Ive got about 100 passes combined in my 2 different ZR1's at the drag strip on stock tires and have had minimal to no "Hop" issues at all. I had it in every one of my Z06's.

I hope to make it to the track this week in the ZR1 on DR's so we will see how it is with the stickier tires on it.

Also, the ZR1 axle has the same 'tri-pot' inner 'CV' joint design same as the C6Z, which is unlike that of the C5Z.

I believe virtually all the C6Z axle failuires have been at the inner 'CV' joint (ie. the tri-pot), whereas the C5 axles virtually never fail at the inner 'CV' joint. Given that C5 axles virtually never fail this might lead one to conclude that their inner 'CV' joint design was superior to what's been used in the C6.

C5 axles also weigh a pound each less than the C6Z axles. I'm not sure how the ZR1 axles compare in weight to the C6Z axles, but at the very least it sounds like the LH axle must weigh more.

Cheers, Paul.

Default ZR1 Axles

In the "for what it's worth" category, my new Z07 optioned Z06 has the larger left axle which still has the GM ZR1 axle sticker on it.

correct me if im wrong. but i thought i read a while back, when the zr1 started coming out, that the passenger side axle was ligther to balence out the rear because of the battey location while the driver side axel was a little heavier.

Switching to ZR1 axles prevents hopping?

This is the original press release for the Blue Devil (later ID'd as the ZR1) regarding the axles: "The rear axle also is stronger in the ZR1 and features asymmetrical axle-shaft diameters that were developed after careful testing to provide optimal torque management." The GM press release for the 2010 ZR1 says the same thing but implies that the axle sizes were further increased in diameter (over the 2009 ZR!???) to 33mm on the right and 40mm on the left.
