What???

You realize that in the cool months HRP (now royal purple raceway) is one of the fastest tracks in the country, right?

Tonight I drove to the track and went right at it. No cool down time from driving an hour and man did it show. This car has some serious heat soak issues. I ran 11.7@123 the first time out at about 205 coolant temp. I normally ran my Zs at 150 degrees because they would start losing power after that. So I ran again at 210 coolant temp and was even slower 11.9@120. Needless to say I was pissed. My first run ever in my Z06 was 11.7@126. So I let it sit 10 minutes hood open and ran 11.7@125. Better. I was at about 180 coolant. I give it another 30 minutes hood open and ran 11.5@127. This car pulls timing bigtime as the air intake temps go up. My tuner friend was there and he was saying that's what it's doing. My last run of the night was 11.4@127 w/170 coolant. I didnt have enough time before it started raining to get them down to 150 degrees. I bet it would have run 128-130.
One other thing to watch out for if you go racing is using the launch control on a prepped track seems to induce wheel hop bad. It did for me both times I tried it. The track crew saw a guy last week wheel hop a brand new Zr1 3 seperate times with launch control on and blow the rear end on the 3rd pass. Car still had paper plates on it. They said they have had many near new Vettes do the same thing lately.
Oh well i'll hit the track again and do it right. Air wasnt too good either. 65 degrees with moderate humidity.
Anyone else run as slow as me out of the box?
Track hasn't had any good rubber laid since the snow we recieved. Of course by the time that happens the weather is going to be even warmer. Everyone on street tires was wheel hopping last time I was there for a test and tune a couple weeks ago, even 5.0 Mustangs with solid axles. Curious what your 60' was and if Joshua made a pass?

2.0 was my best 60ft. I generally can get down to about 1.7 on my Z06s. I didn't take any air out of my tires because I was so far from home so that had some impact. I also didn't do any big burn outs. Trying to conserve tires. Josh didn't make any passes.

Mine does. I have driven both, the ZR1 is harder to launch as it is easier to blow the launch. Even with that, the ZO6 with a good driver is low 11s. So they are pretty close.

Get it on a race course, the ZR1 will leave it in the dust. Spring Mountain, ZR1 is 5 seconds faster around the course and this is after they upgraded the tires on the Z06.

They're having some big events these next couple weekends, I bet the next test and tune the traction will be a lot better. I guessing the taller first gear along with your taller tires is making it a bit more finicky to launch than the c6z. Hope to see you out there next time!

No joke, I spent every night I could, out watching the street races with my Dad down there. He used to do it back in the 70's and 80's with the original muscle cars on the northside. When I lived with him after high school we used to go out in his wrecker and sit up on the roof for the best view.

The first time I ever saw a truck pop a wheelie on the street was out on Rankin Road. It used to be "Goodtimes" back in the day he said, but it's nothing like it used to be.

I've become more of a impromptu kind of racer myself. I've learned it keeps me out of trouble more than going out and racing in same place till the heat shows up.

OK went racing again last night and did a little better. 11.1@126 with a lame 1.8 60ft . Still of the mark but better. I threw up to check engine lights after the 4 th run. The heat soak was bad. Lost 5mph in back to back runs. Dry ice on three intake helped. 30 minute rest between runs is a sufficient cool down.

thanks for reminding me. Ill post it. I can definately make it into the tens. If I had cut a 1.65 60 ft then I would have run around 10.8. My check engine light was intake/maf sensor. My tuner buddy said some of the '10s have faulty sensors. In hoping that's what's been holding me back. My car seems to get to about 750rpm before redline and runs out of steam. It will even stutter sometimes. Then it throws the light.
