Default Problem with ZR! carbon fiber roof panel

Greetings

Went on a 5 hour spirited drive yesterday. Was a blast. As always, when I returned home, I washed and detailed the car. I notice a small nick, pencil head size in the middle of my top. While washing, to my surprise, the clear coat, or whatever they use, started flaking off. I was shocked.... I now how a orange size spot with no clearcoat. Carbon looks undamaged? Any thoughts???

here's a picture......

Gary- let us know what the dealer says about it, weird, looks like some of it peeled off. First word of this issue I think, keep us posted and all the best.

Ouch. Definitely interested in what the dealer says.

In the meantime, would keep it out of the sun.

Yawzers..... the CF top scares the living day lights out of me, I only see issues long term... fading, peeling, etc. Wonder what GM will do if this starts to become common place?

First my condolences..... cannot imagine that being repaired without redoing the entire surface.

What I am curious about is what they say is the cause. If once the surface cover is penetrated means its integrity is compromised, does not say much for the longevity of the clear finnish.

Full body paint is one solution, I always thought the C6 body looked better in one color.

What types of wax or polishes if anything have you used on the CF?

That should be replaced under warranty, looks like clear coat failure.

I would question any attempt to fix the damage - the coating on the CF is that very expensive stuff that not too many shops have experience with.

They should replace the top

Don't be saying that lol

Actually I put 1 layer of Rejex on it after I asked and most have said it's safe as they've done it. I haven't touched it since with anything. The front lip and sides, as well as the Katech CF spoiler all get Zaino though.

I think from now on none of the CF will be getting anything except water and dried. Keep the Zaino to the body only

Smart move regardless.

Sorry to see that OP but stuff does happen and I can only assume GM will take care of this hands down. As someone mentioned above I would not accept just a "re-spray" of clear coat. That would be half-a$$ in my book.

Zaino's never going out of business as long as you have a Vette.

I would accept a spray of the special clear coat with the $60K per gallon UV blocker and $2K per gallon stabilizer or whatever it is called if done correctly and looked good.

If it turned out crappy or they don't have the necessary "mix" then I would get the new roof.

At some point they have to be able to fix these cars. If not, can't wait to see what happens in a few years when no one can get a carbon fiber roof. Actually someone will develop an aftermarket version I am sure for 10K.

And me. Ordering some detail spray tonight.

My roof had a nick in it when I brought the car home. Since I drove it 2 hours home, I think it happened then as I don't recall seeing it when we picked up the car. Irregardless, I hope this doesn't happen to mine. How awful - will be waiting to hear cause and fix. Good luck OP. Hope you are satisfied with the final outcome.

Seriously guys... a stone hits the roof and the dealer is responsible? Wear and tear is what I think. Sorry to say but that's what I think GM will tell you. Unless you can prove it was peeling and there is no evidence of a ding they might replace it I guess.

Special Clear Coat over CF.

I recall reading this clear was a big deal.

New part only...don't think it can be repaired with OEM material.
