Default Halltech ZR1 Cold Air Induction Progress Report

Pricing will be $1395.00 and will include the Halltech Carbon Beehive.

Horsepower estimate is 15 to 16 RWHP. This same filter made 13 HP on the Katech dyno on the LS7. The LS9 with more demand for lower restriction as the power level increases, will benefit more from the very low restriction K&N filter. We could get the cost down if K&N would make this filter in rubber vs. carbon fiber, since it will be totally covered by our Carbon Fiber Beehive. The filter cost is 10 times what our normal filter costs us, but it is proprietary to this induction system, so we are not able to make changes.

The biggest bang comes from the cold air induction, which should yield 20+ horsepower by reducing the power robbing hot air (air density) and keep timing better by reducing the amount of timing loss.

The PCM starts pulling timing at 86F and will lose over 12 degrees timing at 140F. That heat level is about where you are at the IAT sensor sitting at a stop light for 1 minute.

I have a poll attached, just to see what interest there is in our getting these to market. We will not be able to dyno test this intake here, since our closest dyno is 140 miles away and our customer is not real interested in driving that far.

Our most recent intake made 20 RWHP on the stock CTS-V, so we are more than confident that this intake will do around 16 or more.

I'm in if a retune is not required.

Cutting is not necessary, since the NACA duct is funtional on the ZR1, albeit not much.

The Beehive will capture enough cold air to keep the IAT (intake air temps) ambient to +2 degrees when moving and stave off heat soak from the engine and SC to the filter.

How much does your Naca duct Hive port bezel help airflow into the filter area?

Zilch, nada. It is a pure carbon fiber replacement for the plastic bezel. We cut out our NACA duct area for 300% better flow to the filter.

Sorry, it appears in our first diagnostic test that LTFT averages settled far too rich for good performance. Recalibration of the MAF tables would be necessary, considered tuning by GM.

Jim, questions:

1- did you log the vehicle without the CAI as well to measure the difference in fuel trims caused by the filter itself?

2- IM trying to figure out, this is Not the same design as the killerbee, any reason for not using that design? This looks like 100% like a K&N CAI with the only difference being that its in carbon fiber, please correct me if im wrong.

3- do you see this CAI making more power than a simple drop in filter like what TKO Performance offers? Some members quote 16rwhp gain with only the drop-in filter, and others have very good results as well.

I really have to be in the mood but I can do some testing for you, I can hook up the wideband, do a baseline, then swap out the filter on the dyno, measure horsepower increase/decrease and changes to AFR, plus a final run with the filter and tune.

Hey Jim
Are you plaining to sale it with the ribbed rubber boot the connects the intake to the throttle body?

I thought that it will disturb flow? I thought it was going to be replaced or the intake going to be extended with a straight flow?

We are not planning anything at the moment. That is the stock connector hose.

We will likely sell the one unit we have with the Beehive and call it good. More forum folks found it necessary to be negative than those interested. To invest in a new project with this type negative response, pretty much validates why we never looked into building an intake system back in 2009 when the ZR1 first came out.

If you are interested in this first system, it is for sale. Tuning will be required. email me jim@halltechsystems.com Pricing is $1,695.00 for the Beehive Heat Shield (cut to the ZR1 bridge, the bridge, and K&N Filter.

Project is ending officially today.

Jim

Sad to hear but I understand. As you know I always been interested so I will keep you posted. Do you have a solution to not use the stock connector hose. Have you at least had success on fit with the beehive? Would like to not run into any bugs with fitting if I buy it from you.

Also thank you on trying to get this to take off again. I know pushed this to happen and it sucks that it didn't take off.

Thanks for your effort, Jim.

That said, is there any interest in a beehive style piece that would enclose the stock intake ducting?
