Default differences between 2010 and 2012/2013 ZR1?

I'm considering purchasing a 2010 ZR1 and wondering what the differences are compared to a 2012 or 2013 ZR1. Anyone know? thanks

Headrest shape change in 2011. 2012 introduced slightly re-designed seats, slightly re-designed steering wheel, Cup wheels & high performance package that includes cups tires and full length spoiler and the same gearing as 2009-2011 ZR1. The non performance package ZR1 get slightly different gearing to save a little gas money on gas a gas guzzler tax. 2012 also had centennial edition. 2013 adds the 60th anniversary package and removes centennial edition.

I'm sure I left some things out but someone else will chime in. The biggest change was 09 to 10 with the addition of PTM and traction control. I love my 2009 but 2010 with PTM would have been very nice. That said if you are not going to the track PTM won't matter and you can save coin on a 2009.

dual-mode ("bi-mode") exhaust is standard on all ZR1s, as is the full length body-colored rear spoiler
.

Sorry. The ZR since 09 had a full length spoiler, it's that the performance package starting in 2012 has what i think is called the full length racing spoiler. It's just a little different it does not dip lower in the middle.

Here is what I see as the main differences -- 2012's and up have 2 extra catalytic converters, and less performance oriented gear ratios in the transmission if you don't order the performance package with the Cup tires. The 2012 and up have a different seat design, which supposedly gives a little more lateral support.

If I were getting a Zr1, I would go with a gently used 2010 or 2011.

several of the 2010's I'm looking at have around 4K miles, but how do you know how gentle those miles are?

^ you don't, but the LS9 is a very stout motor... ask if the car has been used on the track or drag-strip if you are truly concerned. Ask to see the owner's service records (if a private sale). Have a thorough pre-purchase inspection done by a competent Corvette mechanic that you trust. Also have a GM dealer run the GMVIS report.

If the car is stock, the power train factory warranty is good for 5 yrs/100K mi's...

(for comparison, my '10 has about 5K miles over 16 mo's...)

Here is what I would look for:

1. Excessive rock chips(this could indicate the car has been tracked) Also check the plastic pieces just behind the front and rear wheels, are these pitted badly or are they still relatively smooth.
2. A decent amount of tread and check the date code on the tires to determine if they have been replaced.
3. if possible by from a private owner - someone that has had the car since new versus one that has been in multiple hands or has been passed from dealer to dealer.
4. take it to a dealer and have it thoroughly checked over and look at the service record.
5. carfax.

lastly, if you do buy a 2010, get an extended warranty- that would be 1500 to 2000 bucks and would be cheap insurance.

I definitely also agree with the extended warranty recommendation...it is cheap insurance for a used ZR1/Z06.
Should be purchased before the original 3 yr/36K mi bumper-to-bumper warranty portion expires.

According to all the fast lists, '09's seem the quickest and fastest by quite a bit, oh sorry, you never asked about them......mu bad.

Not sure where you drive but my car has lots of rock marks on the plastic behind the wheels and has never been tracked..you don't have to track your car for Michelins to pick up anything and everything

All ZR1's have magnetic ride sus. '09 have a two mode sport/touring control (no launch control), '10 - '13 have the 5 mode PTM (with launch control).

There is a difference between rock marks, that you can mostly see, when you are down close versus those pieces looking like they have been sand blasted when standing 5 feet away.
