Again, thanks for all the kind words!

The car sold after the ebay auction ended. Now, I'm curious if anybody has sold cars on ebay before; what is the best way to collect the funds? Obviously, I'm not going to release the car without cash in hand, but I'm really curious about what the safest play is?? Thanks in advance to those who respond!

Congrats Jeff!

There is no "safe" way.The best you can do is minimize your exposure. At some point one side is going to have to trust the other. The best scenario for you is to have the buyer wire funds to your account and you send that person the title and the DMV Power of Atty with regards to the ZR1. That way you ensure you have the $$$ before the car leaves your possession. Even if the buyer is financing, good banks (Credit Unitons) have no issue with this.

Is the buyer picking up or having shipped? If shipping, Id also recommend taking a video of the car just before being loaded and once loaded to C.Y.A. The car may get chipped or other en route and since the buyer hasnt seen it in person, it will be his word against yours.

I have done this with many expensive cars and have never had a problem. Once you get more details, PM me or text me and I will offer what advice I can.

Spoke too soon. I've had several decent offers, but all have turned out to be flaky people, who don't have their finances in order. One guy wanted me to ship the car across country, and he would pay for it after it was in his garage. Another claims to have lost his job, smashed his car and wiped out his retirement while saving his parents home from foreclosure (and for some reason thinks in light of this, now would be the best time to buy ZR1...if he had the money), and yet another asked if he could buy just the interior.

Fortunately, I've got time on my side and can wait for the right buyer to come along, who appreciates the quality of the car and all of the unique features it has. Thanks again to all the well wishers!!!

first that car is amazing, where did you order those seats from? Any information on them would be appreciated, web-site, cost. Thanks in advance for the information, again that car is amazing and if I had the cash it would be mine.

Two points.

1) Great looking C7 with "still the best looking" wheels ever designed.

2) I am shocked that someone hasn't snapped up Jeff's ZR1. For more than a brief moment I gave consideration to selling my Blade Silver '10 and buying his beautiful Inferno Orange '11. I would guess that there are between 30K and 40K in cosmetic and performance upgrades to that car. Unfortunately, my wife picked out the color on ours and is not as partial to orange as am I.

Regardless of sale methodology, there are three safe ways to receive funds:
1 - Wire transfer. Favors seller slightly. Minimal Cost.
2 - www.escrow.com/ Buyer/seller neutral. Cost (generally absorbed by buyer as it insulates them from seller misrepresentation - not a concern in this case).
3 - Cash

Have you used escrow.com at all? It looks like a great idea. However, I'm leery about shipping a car somewhere and finding out that it gets damaged while being inspected (I mean mercilessly flogged)...

I would require payment before it leaves your possession. That's pretty much standard when selling a car. I bought a (much cheaper) vette last year sight unseen. That's how I did it - I paid for the car before the transport company picked it up.

I really appreciate the offer, but I've run out of space. So, trading doesn't solve my space problems.
