The way I see it is if someone has a serious interest they can private message for details and motives. When I see a comment such as the one above it appears to me to be no more than a tire kicker. I appreciate the positive comment and well wishes on the sale.

I think I know why people ask. They believe there might be something wrong with the car. And by asking, somehow, the seller might be inclined to admit to the issues. But the fact is, if the seller was honest, he would offer the truth, if he wasnt honest, asking wouldn't make a difference in his reply.

The man that asked the question has a ZR1 in his avatar.....perhaps he has interest if OP's car has had problems?
It is a pretty value less question though....what would a person say, "yeah, this ride really sucks man....."

I don't see why it is a big deal to ask "why are you selling the car"? Every car I'm interested in purchasing I ask why are you selling. I figure it certainly can't hurt to ask and maybe it'll help...yielding some information that could be useful to you if you are buying. Either way, it can't hurt.

I wonder what the expression would be if the question was asked at a dealership or used car lot.
