Default Who loves injecting meth!

I am almost convinced that meth is the way to go for cooler iat's, safety of the motor, sustained performance, etc. I need some help guys.

I would like to hear from those running meth how there real world experience is with it? (Particularlily anyone running a tvs2300 bower with it, but by no means limited to that) Some say its an annoyance, some say its the best thing ever and completely necessary on higher horsepower builds...

What are your thoughts on your meth systems? Both pros and cons? Is there maintenance involved? I am considering ECS's alky control kit. Anyone have any issues? Are there any important things to be mindful of when running meth (how long the meth can sit in the windshield tank for when the car is not in use, pump/system maintenace, avoiding clogs, etc.)
Any regrets?

Is it really necessary for about 650 rwhp and roughly 10lbs of boost?

Thanks guys, I am trying to learn as much as I can from everyone as I plan my mods

I do! I do! It's like race gas on demand. Show me another way to make >950 RWHP (User_Name) at the wheel on pump gas. OK, E85 but that comes with it's own set of complications.

I don't know about performance but it sure smells good....

but seriously it definitely has no cons besides having to fill up the tank every so often.

Study common chemical names for methanol, research the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for a specific product and you'll discover that you can buy it @ Wal-Mart!!!

All I know is that my Novi 1500 making 11 PSI thru an air to air and a single nozzle meth set up sees IATs that are BELOW ambient. That in itself should make it a no brainer for any FI set up. I'm not even going to get into what kind of gains the N2O guys in ADRL are seeing from a small shot of meth.

I don't like Meth Injection at all!!! Have come to the realization that on this platform it's needed due to the heads and hot spots. I don't like adding variables and this is just another variable that can fail. I would much rather not use it that use it!!

If I do go SC shoot the crank is already pinned for it.............I will be adding a meth kit!

We have EVO's 2.0L 4 cylinders pushing 625 on 93 octance, GTR's 3.8L 6 cylinders pushing 1000awhp on 93 octane, Supras the same.............etc etc. I do with this platform was the same way!!!

Denatured Alcohol MSDS: ttp://www.rockler.com/tech/RTD20000136AA.pdf

50% methanol/ 50% ethyl alcohol

Don't forget Mineral Spirits: 100% Methanol

In Deep South Texas I have to order VP Methanol and shipping costs me as much as the Methanol. Basically $90 for 5 gallons. Therefore, I have look for options.

Food For Thought

Denatured Alcohol

When all else fails another fluid you can use and count of finding locally with no problem is denatured alcohol. Denatured alcohol can be purchased at any Home Depot, Lowes and many other home improvement stores and is located in the paint department.

What is denatured alcohol you ask? Denatured alcohol is generally 90% ethanol with 10% methanol added to it to render it undrinkable for human consumption. While ethanol does not offer as good of a cooling effect as does methanol. Ethanol does have more power per unit volume then methanol. However, methanol is still the preferred choice over the two alcohols.

I think I'm good I'm only running 7psi on my centri. It's a great alternative that requires no mixing. It's the same with windshield washer fluid. As long as the tune can take it then you can use it. My car was specifically set up for denatured alcohol in mind.

All this talk about alky/meth I wanted to chime in about my recent experience with e85. We tuned the car to run with 5 gallons of gas an then ran that tank out on the dyno to simulate some drive time. Then we put in 10 gallons of e85 adjusted tune and engine temps dropped and all of a sudden the exhaust smell from having no cats went away. Pretty interesting to see it happen like that. Even the fuel feed lines were cooler than I expected.

Ha! Or in my case, why wouldn't it turn off. Had to turn the ignition off, coast to a stop, disconnect the power to the meth controller, and restart the motor. Needed a new control module.

What is the limit of meth injection? At what point is e85 or race gas necessary?

It was a combination of parts that I liked lol! But the reason was the hobbs switch quit working for some reason. I think it was a combination of age and heat, but who knows.
