They are both good balancers, you can use it as a six rib also. Two ribs will just go for a ride until you upgrade to an eight rib.
We have a different tensioner bracket for the OD balancer so the idler will not rub the balancer without a belt in place, but the original can be used.

Same idler, just a different bracket so the tensioner stop is slightly farther away to make up for the larger balancer.
An OD balancer will usually gain about 3lbs of boost.
