We have not been able to hold alt charge at WOT due to the 4 rib drive belt slipping on the crank, some claim they do, but we have never been able to on multiple cars, C5 and C6. So we made a six rib drive for the crank/AC belt also in conjunction with the flip drive and it's been working great.
The direct drive SC belt is nice of course too, although I feel it is only necessary on high HP cars.

What all has to be changed for that set up. I have the same issues when the 4 rib belt is on the car for a little bit

We machine the balancer and jack shaft for two more ribs, change idlers on the AC tensioner and idler, and AC clutch. We have been doing this on all the direct drive systems we install now.

Hmm... I guess all the people singing the praises of these kits have fresh belts? This is the first I've ever heard of anyone having issues running things w/ the 4-rib.

Is this specific to cartek vs. dallas performance, or does it matter which one?

Gees dont yell at me!!

We have cars consistently running low nines without a direct drive with 100's of track passes on them too, no accessory failures either. So do I feel it is necessary in all applications? no.

I personally think most running the direct drive do not realize they are losing alternator at WOT. Non of the owners of the cars I logged the problem on had a clue before I showed them the logs.

Was this having an impact on fueling for people running large aftermarket pumps, or what was the downside to less charge during WOT pulls?

I have both the DP direct drive and upgraded alt as I was told that the stock alt never last too long when going FI.

Just FYI, Dallas Performance does sell a manual AC tensioner for ~$130, but after selling ~150 direct drives, they haven't sold any manual tensioners.

So the standard C6 belt route on the AC side looks like this (and Dallas Performance's kit doesn't change anything over there). Just one tensioner on the bottom, and not much belt wrap:

Here's a shot of Cartek's kit. It looks like there is an extra tensioner on the top of the AC belt (or is that just a standard C5 thing?):

Can someone familiar with C5's or the cartek setup explain that top tensioner by the AC unit?

That is a blower belt tensioner. Not sure what brand though.

The one behind it putting tension on the yellow AC belt.

It almost just looks like an extra pulley, then the stock ac tensioner is reused.

I'll have to look at my motor later tonight for that hole. I wish I'd heard about this issue when it was out on the stand and easier to play with.

i have to replace my balancer so i was thinking of adding a flip drive system and with the added boost that the Iw balancer will be making i don't wanna be worried belt slippage but if IT IS NOT NECESSARY i can just use the money for other upgrades.:-)

There's definitely not any provision for a top roller on the C6 ac bracket:

Here's the LS1 ac bracket (shown in the cartek pic)

I assume that bracket won't fit on an ls2/3 block and hold a C6 ac compressor will it?

Thats a bummer they removed it on the C6... seems like it would be pretty helpful for these direct drive systems.

Exactly-I think that contributes to alot of the C6's/Direct Drive issues.

You said you have held charge with the C5 bracket, which is why I say "some people are able to hold charge" and trust what you say, but even with the C5 bracket I could never hold charge at WOT.
