Went by the powder coater today and they said it'd be Thursday or Monday before I get my bracket back I'm pretty much at a stand still until I get that back unfortunately
#3683
That sucks, but at least you'll have a much sexier alternator bracket soon... well, maybe not so soon.

Well, I got bored........................
Decided to go ahead and put the intake on and start it up sans accessories just to get some oil moving. And, I was bored.. so there was that.
No issues so far. It started right up, ran fine.. started smoking like normal after having oily hands all over headers. Lifters were a little louder at first but quieted down. Headers and X pipe are loose so I need to tighten that up still.
Ready
Intake, gaskets cleaned up
Had to improvise a little
I also got to install the fancy new fitting from MM for my fancy new valve covers from down south. The big white coil pack connectors have got to go
I've got a video of the startup but it's going to take like an hour to upload, I'll post it later

If you run it like that until it shuts off automatically, it will be nicely broken in.

Sounds like a good idea for tomorrow

I shouldn't laugh. After making fun of that poor chap on the other thread, I nearly did the same thing last night.
Karma is a bitch, I guess. So imma be nice from here on in...

Looking good there Carson.
Just get a black magic marker and color the connectors black. Then you won't even notice them.

Didn't get anything done today. Can't really do much until bracket it done anyways, hopefully tomorrow. I'll get it finished up tomorrow if I can get the bracket back
I think some Holley fuel rails and moving that flex fuel sensor and regulator somewhere else will be my next projects. Eventually.

Bracket is done. They didn't listen about the 4 bolt bosses being masked off but whatever, I'll razor some of the coating off when I get home. They did mask where the alternator shim things go so that's good at least.
Hopefully can finish it up tonight

Got it mostly back together tonight. Ran it for about 20 mins, got up to 180 and didn't seem to be getting any warmer (fan wasn't even on) so I cut it off there. Little bit of blue smoke out the exhaust in the beginning and plenty of smoke coming off the headers from all the fingerprints and little bits of oil that's probably on them, but overall it's close to being done.
Still have to tighten up header to X pipe connection and put bolts back on ABS bracket. Also have to change idler pulley near power steering pump. I replaced it with one that would supposedly fit, but it's offset wrong, so belt is almost coming off the edge. Might be OK but I'm not sure so I'm just going to change it.
Lifters are quieter than they've ever been. Oil pressure is basically the same as it's been since cam install so no issues there.
------------------
Tried using a razor to scrape off this coating, wasn't happening so I broke out the Dremel tool.
And that did the trick
Bracket
I think the bracket is halfway on here, I'm not really sure
Power steering pump is on, etc.
Alternator on.
Only current issue that I know of.. stupid idler isn't the same as the stock one. I'm going to order a real one tomorrow instead of WTF ever Amazon said would fit
And that's pretty much it. Going to finish it up tomorrow, change the oil, drive it, and hopefully this is done

Some of those idlers are offset, so could it be on backwards? I've done that before.

I was hoping that was it but flipped the other way was worse, went ahead and ordered a new one, should be here Wednesday. What's on there now might work but it's pretty close

That's a real purdy black bracket you got there son!
Arrgh! Another idler/pulley/belt problem! I'm so fed up with that sort of ****!

Did we get that car running yet?? Man, you're slacking off lately! Must be the company you keep on here.
Don't worry about that lil old misaligned pulley thing. Just fling that belt on there and let 'er rip. Just make sure you carry a knife in case you need to cut the remnants of your pulleys. Ask me how I know...

It's alive! Drove it a few miles earlier and seems to be fine with that amazon special idler. Still going to swap it out but it'll do for a test drive
Let it warm up with coolant cap off and it spewed coolant everywhere which had me worried, seems like it was just trapped air though. Filled it back up and drove it and no issues. No bulging radiator hoses or missing coolant
Need to change oil before driving it hard but so far looking good

BTW, I would've just dropped a couple of washers behind that idler, tightened it down, and forgotten about it.

Probably should have, but new one will be here today and Amazon refunded me for the this not so great fitting one already so I'll probably swap it out just to be sure I don't have to carry a knife with me on every drive

And here's basically how it ended up. Looks pretty nice, still need to chop that coil harness connector off but those valve covers and alt bracket look a lot cleaner to me
And video of idling. Head unit seems louder now without all the ticking
