Default What are the best drag tires

My car has 654 RWHP. What are the best drag strip tires?

315/35/17 or 335/35/17 Hoosier drag radials.

Sub, what wheels do you run with those?

I've got three sets in total - 17x11 OEM ZR1s, 17x11 OEM GS and a pair of 17x11 AFS ZR1 repros.

For the 315s you can get away with running them on 17x9.5 C5 Z06 fronts which I've done in the past but the 335s definitely need an 11" rim.

Thanks! I just found the 335s on Summit Racing. I'll look for a set of 17x11s.
I'm installing a 3600 stall converter and a Z06 diff over the holidays and then I'll do a cam change and most likely an ECS kit in January, so I'll need some traction. I'm still hoping to get my front wheels to dangle like yours!
Those Hoosiers look like a track only tire though. I wouldn't want to get caught in the rain with those on!
Thanks again. I'll be checking you as soon as I grenade the trans!

If the "GS" in your screen name means Grand Sport, you need to do some checking before buying 17" rims and tires. My 17" rims with MT 295/45 17 tires were perfect for my narrow body C6. Wouldn't clear the brakes on my new GS though.

Unless GS brakes are bigger than what's on a C6 Z06, they'll fit fine as long as you have them balanced with the weights towards the inside of the barrel.

Even with the weights on the "outside" I still have clearance with my oem c5z06 wheels on my z06 brakes. Barely... like 1/16th of an inch, but it works. I forgot to tell them to put the weights on the other side >.>

I saw something about Hoosier having a new tire to compete with the MT e/t pros, but I'm wondering if they will make them in a 17 inch size unlike the MTs. I don't feel like going to 15s right now. I also read something about MT redoing the ET street radials? Not sure about that.

My 17's are factory Gen 4 Camaro/Firebird rims. The weights are on the outside. They would fit with a half inch spacer. Can't bring myself to do that though.

Thanks guys. This is good to know. If the 17" wheels you're using only have ~1/16" clearance, then it might depend on the style (shape of the barrel) of the wheel whether it rubs on the Z06/GS brake calipers?
That being the case, I will make sure I buy something that fits.
It would be good if Hoosier comes out with a better, treaded street radial, something that you can make it home with if you get caught in a rainstorm on the road.
It would definitely be a good thing if we had more tire options for larger wheels, because I also don't want to ever go to a 15" setup. I don't even like that look on a Vette. I already have a back halved race car with 33x15 slicks on it. The GS is supposed to be my street ride.
Sorry if I've hijacked your thread, OP.

@CI_GS —> Hello, I couldn’t PM you for some reason. I know this is a OLD post - but I wanted to ask if you did get that 3600 Stall Torque Converter? I had 3 Camaro’s before my current 2016 C7 Z06 (the automatic Camaro I got a 3,900 stall I believe as I was running a huge cam) —> I notice no one ever discusses torque converters for Corvettes. Honestly, I’m very mechanical/handy person but Automatic Transmissions/Torque Converters are something I honestly don’t understand 100%..... I’m curious if a torque converter is recommended and if you did get one - did it make a huge difference in drivability? In either a positive or negative way? My car makes 650 WHP & 780 WTQ... BUT - I’m planning on getting Kong Ported Blower + 2.3 Supercharger Pulley at same time (Kong is installing it for me) so with that combo and my other mods it should add about 80 - 100 WHP.....

Obviously Tires/Rims —> Did 17” rim’s fit your Grand Sport (I think those brakes are same as Z06?). I don’t have the Z07 package so I’m wondering what Rim to buy. From my reading a 18” is ideal for my car.... Thanks for your help!

17 x 11 rear wheels with a +45mm offset fit the (C6) GS / Z06 perfectly and won't stick outside of you rear fenders at all ... Not sure about on a C7.

I am using a 305/45 -17 drag radial with these rear wheels

Too bad you don't have a "real" blower...

Yeah, I’ve done a lot of changes on my car since I posted on this thread.
I have no experience with the 8-speed transmissions, so it’s hard to recommend any particular converter for your car, although I believe the right converter will make your car quicker without compromising driveability or mileage significantly. The thing is, the 8 speed trans has such a steep first gear that they almost don’t need a converter. I have a friend with a 2016 Camaro and his car regularly runs 1.5x 60’ times on drag radials at the track with a stock motor on nitrous, which is pretty impressive.
So, if I were you, I would put the ported blower on and focus on getting the car to hook and then if you still want to change the converter, you can call one of the reputable companies like Yank, Circle D, FTI, and talk to them about what you want.
As far as wheels are concerned, there are many 17s that fit the C6 GS/Z06, but I have no idea what obtains with the C7, but from what I’ve seen, you should be able to do that too.
I’ve long since changed my spindles and brakes to the Carlyle/Wilwood kit, so that I could run 15” wheels, and nowadays I run the 17” Welds and a set of M/T ET Street SS 305/45/17s on the street.
