ERL short block is the way to go. Make sure to get a GOOD crank/rods. Not Compstar stuff. Spending more on the motor upfront now will save you a fortune later.

Good luck on hitting 8s!
I think the quote said dragon slayer crank, callies rods, and Wisco pistons.

I would re think the wiseco pistons. Diamond uses a better alloy, make sure you get heavy wall tool steel wrist pins as well, not the standard ones. Dragonslayer crank, ultra I beam rods, will make for a stout bottom end. Have your main caps pinned as well.

I just looked. It says erl custom pistons. I assume I have a choice between the two.

Not yet. I ran into a couple road blocks. Went to put the balancer and the balance has a square key pin and the the crank has a rounded dowel pin.

Mine was the same.

I just installed the balancer and re-pinned the crank in a new spot, no problems.. The square key is for aftermarket cranks with crank keyways. The rounded dowel pin, I'm assuming, is from the crank having been pinned before.

How can I do that without messing up the crank or the balance?

Do you have a crank pinning kit?

Negative. It didn't come with the balancer. I'll get ahold of ecs and see what they have.

Yeah that's what you need. I have one if you want it but you'll need a pin still unless you have an old one or something

ATI has one that is different and using it you end up utilizing the slot that is in the balancer, but it costs more and doesn't really matter in the end.

The one ECS uses just drills a slot in the crank and balancer, so half of the drill bit goes into the crank and half of it goes into the pulley, then you put a steel pin in that helps stop the balancer from spinning. I've got some pictures from my install if you want them (these are just random ones I found on the internet)

Kind of like this:

I actually just talked to Chris at ECS. He said take a grinder and round the square key hole of the balancer.

And use the original pin + circular slot in the crank? If he says it'll work then I'd go with it

Yes. I have different size dowel pins at work. Im thinking about machining one side squared and keep the other rounded. What do you think?

Hey sorry, totally missed your post.. yeah I think that would work as long as it's strong enough.. and it needs to be a pretty snug fit. Personally I'd just re-pin it with a regular round pin like comes with all of the supercharger kits and be done with it, but that's just me

Here's what mine ended up looking like FYI

No. Went to put the balancer on and noticed one of the bolts was sticking out father than the other. Went to tighten it and with very little effort the bolt broke.
