Default First drive, new M/T Street R's

Cross post since it applies under different forums:

Just received, mounted and installed arguably one of the first pairs of this all new tire from Mickey Thompson. I wish I could have a report from the track but it seems North Texas is having a monsoon season this year. More rain already than all of last year!

315/35/17's on 17x11 Weld RTS, just touching and squeezing the "tread" and these things are soft and sticky.

GS MN6 with A&A kit, McLeod RXT clutch, 675/580

First drive: well it stopped raining long enough for the roads to barely dry, very humid. Went out with no prep, never even spun the tires and tried a 3k RPM launch on a concrete surface. It hooked!! Rolled the throttle just a little and then on the floor, spun a little at the top of the RPM's at full boost. Tried it a couple more times with consistent results. Turned back for home just as the rain returned.

Really looking forward to the real test at the strip!

REGARDING INSTALLED HEIGHT:

Despite being called a 26" tire the installed height is just short of 25.5". I feel like they'll still be fine as gearing will be excellent.

Although i sure am curious what actual height is on the 305/40/17 which is supposed to be a 27.5" tire,

Looks good! Do you know the approximate weight of the tire?

interesting...we have similar power levels (640/588 little less HP little more TQ) and I'd love to hook in 1st gear. You're telling me on the street this hooked in 1st (for the most part)? That's amazing!!!

They are VERY, very sticky. Obviously wet performance is horrible as is cornering.

Went to my one of my "test" spots in between rain showers Saturday. No burnout, tires at 27psi and launched at 3k...lugged it down actually. Should have been more aggressive with the pedal.

Oh, as a side note I did get farther from home than I should of and it started pouring. It was a long slow drive home in the rain on side roads.

I moved from the old 325/50/15 to a 275/60/15 but really want to see the results on the new R tire. cant wait for some one to get the 325 on to see how it does..

I had a larger pulley (4") on there at 675 and with the dual nozzle Alky Control system I was at #4.

Had QMS install and tune the car with the typical LS3 3.8" pulley and made 698.8/617tq with the meth at #7.

A 28" would look better though with traction the shorter tire should be a quicker ET.

epic! I don't know if just because they're old (in years not mileage) but my Nt05R have been pretty disappointing at 690-750whp

anyone know if these would be safe for 1/2 mile racing up to 185mph?

Depends on your gearing. 690-750rwhp will hit 165-167ish through am M6. At least here in Texas on our equipment. A 27.5 inch tire will work great if you have base gearing and you won't have to shift to 5th. It cost me 1-2mph at 800rwhp not raising my limiter up from 6800rpm with that tire size.

also depends if they'll even let you run DR's.

I ran my NT05r's at a 1/2 mile roll race that allowed DR's. The standing 1/2 miles here in Texas don't allow DR's..period.

At a half mile event I would prefer my larger 345/19's anyway.

True. The Hoosier A6's are super soft and will hook fine on the runway, and the R6's will too. They just put a dent in the wallet for a single event.

Your car looks great.
